M.O.R.E. Hide a step for my Rubicon?

I am thinking about getting this retractible step for my wife to get in my TJ, but I don't know if it will stick out far enough. I know there is a little cutting and some drilling, which I am not thrilled about, but I like that it doesn't hang down and is just hidden. My other option would be the tube style steps that run the length of the sides.

What do you think, do they work okay? Pretty pricy for one, but they look well built.

They hang down about 2-3" below the rocker guard. Also be aware that the step does not lock into the down position. The user needs to keep it down while manuevering to get in the Jeep.
 
Out to the side? I don't recall. It isn't fully concealed by any means.
