Mesh Tops: Spiderweb or Rugged Ridge?

it's time for a mesh top to cut down the UV exposure. The selection seems limited for a 15 year old Jeep, especially since it's an LJ.

Both the Rugged Ridge and SpiderWebshade look good; I'm just looking for comments about fit and coverage.

I'd prefer a lighter mesh that lets more light in.

The Red is appealing if it is a close match to the Flame Red body paint, but not if it clashes

Hopefully a secure fit without excessive flapping at speed.

I got a spiderwebshade this summer and love it. Fits under the soft top too (which I'm sure they all do) which is nice. Fits tight and doesn't flap around at all on the highway. I got the black one and it let's just enough light through to give the open air feel (I've got doors off too) but it also doesn't an excellent job of keeping the sun out of your eyes and from burning you... also a great bird shit shield.

I've been running it for a while now, and having had a Spiderweb Shade and an Alien Sunshade before, this one is identical to both, and the cheapest of them all

Thanks for the advice! I'm going with the Rugged Ridge; the Alien appears to be available only in Flamingo Pink, the Voodolala looks like TJ only (I need the LJ version), and the Spiderwebshade is $40 more.

I had a cheap Amazon mesh shade. It was well built and worked nicely. Like most mesh shades it attached to the roll bar with bungees. Since the shade is narrower than the opening between the roll bars (left and right), the shade fit even vertically with the middle of the roll bar, much lower than an over the roll bar design like my current bikini top. I did not like the loss of headroom.

As I see it the Spiderwebshade is American made and worth the extra money if that's important to you. If you go with one of the chinese shades it doesn't matter, just get the cheapest you can find. They are often on ebay for just over $30 shipped from a distributor in the US.

I agree on the Spiderweb shade it is great quality and I have had mine for what seems like 7 or 8years (Likely more) with no signs of fading, stretching, unraveling, flapping or any other undesirable actions. Spreading that extra $40.00 over he numbers of years I have had this is money well spent.

Remember, when buying American the job you save may be your brother-in-law’s and that will keep him from moving in with you, sleeping on your couch, and drinking your beer. - seems like $40.00 well spent to me.

I like my spiderweb shade. Did some research and wanted one that wouldn’t fade. So far so good.

In addition to being made here in the USA, I believe Spiderweb Shade were the originators and all the rest are copies.

Whenever possible I like to support those that came up with the idea in the first place.

Quadratec emailed last night that the Rugged Ridge is “temporarily “ out of stock. Their instructions are to sit on my ass indefinitely.
After I told them to cancel the order, I proceeded to spiderwebshade and ordered a gray one.

I run the TJ spiderweb shade on my LJ since I didn’t want it hanging down in the back. Works great and doesn’t stick out under the trektop in safari form.

The back of mine is stretched tight and the ball straps are hooked to S shaped carabiners and attached to the upper rear seat belt bolts, makes for easy removal if needed and it will not flap.
