I currently have an LJ with 35s and 3 inch suspension and 1.25 body lift. It has compromises I am living with for now but a regear is in the near future. Mine is a 6 speed so the sucky gearing is manageable for now and is still far better on the street than the toyota 22re wheeling rig this lj replaced. I didn't drive this lj in stock form so I don't have that to compare it to. It does drive very well though for what it is knowing the compromises it currently has.
If I had to do it over I would work towards 35s in stages with the tires being the last thing I purchased. That is what I did with the Toyota but I bought this lj on 35s then added the body lift and black magic brakes and new 35s. It's a weekend wheeler not a daily. If you plan on driving it a lot then I would stop at 33s or at least regear with the tire purchase and a quality 4inch lift set up like others have mentioned.
How I bought it vs how it looks today. It was a roller skate before with no room.
