So… I recently obtained my 2004 Wrangler X, 4.0. It spent a considerable amount of time open to the Florida elements, judging by the condition of the interior. I’ve also had some intermittent blinker issues, an air bag light that comes on and off for a few days at a time and the horn doesn’t work. This led me to open the dash compartment under the steering wheel…the photo shows what I found.
My first question is WHY?? What would be the reason to even do this? That mess is a ton of shabby connections, some of which are clearly not connected. Is it worth the trouble of taking all that rats nest apart and re-splicing them all? This is not an easy place to work! Is there even a diagram that lists what these individual wires go to?
Next question: Have any of you fine folks replaced an entire dash harness? If so, what kind of time commitment can I expect? How do I know which harness to get? I’ve found a few online in various conditions for around 150-200 bucks, all used of course. Is there any way of confirming that I’m getting the correct harness? I’m concerned about spending that kind of money to rip the dash apart and find I have the wrong harness.
