My 1973 K10 Chevy Cheyenne

I just found the older brother of your truck for 29k$ super clean with a 427

I've been banned from Facesuck so I can't see the listing, but for 29k (assuming it's rust free), that could be a good buy! I like that it has a 427!

Almost all of the 67-72s need rockers unless they've been inside their whole lives. It is a clean looking truck though!

Every time I see those ugly turn I think about how badly Ford dropped the ball with the new Bronco.

The 2-door does look better than the 4-door, however. Same situation with JKs and JLs.

I have to tell you, we rented the baby bronco (4dr sport) in the keys a month ago or so and really liked it.

If I remember correctly, I think that thing shares a pedigree with some sort of Range Rover or something. Can't remember what it was.

So I checked out the wheel bearings and ball joints as well as all the bushings just to rule that out with the sketchy steering. Everything looks good so I'm unsure why it drives the way it does. It could just be that I'm so used to driving a modern truck that I'm not used to older vehicles. I've also never driven another K10 so I have nothing to compare it too.

I'm going to take it to a reliable alignment shop and have them check out the alignment for me to see if there's anything I'm missing.

I suppose if I wanted to spend big bucks, I could go with this crossover steering and track bar kit. Awfully expensive, but people online say it makes the steering feel like a "modern vehicle".

As you can see, it's got factory A/C including a period correct compressor.

I've got to figure the A/C out though. It blows cold, but not likely as cold as it should. It might have a leak or something somewhere, I'm not sure.

The A - 6 compressor should have your balls frozen to the seat in 20 minutes on Max Air ( recirc ) . It's worth checking it out ! You need to have a return on investment since you'll lose 2 -3 m.p.g.

What sort of refrigerant does that A-6 compressor use?

I'm going to put some dye in the system and see if it's got a leak anywhere to start with.

Originally it was R-12 , but it may have been converted to R-134 or ??? . As I understand it , the type of oil vs. refrigerant can be an issue. Also some seals may have compatibility issues. I'm sure someone more versed in refrigeration will weigh in with better information . I do know of a guy the recharged his old Ford pickup with R-134 when the Ford used R-12 , he didn't do anything with TEV or oil and it cooled great for the 4 years he kept it. I'm not recommending his approach , But I was surprised that all the bad side effects you hear about didn't happen to him .

Okay, so maybe one of you Chevy guys knows the answer to this.

The truck has power steering but it's a bit "flighty" (for lack of a better word) at higher speeds. It feels sloppy, not very precise, and the faster you go the more sketchy it feels.

I would like to upgrade the steering in such a way that it feels more modern. I'm guessing that the solution to this is a better power steering pump.

I found this one:
https://squarebodysyndicate.com/products/performance-quick-ratio-chevy-k10-power-steering-box

Not sure if that's what I need. Maybe I need to ask around the Chevy forums but I figured I'd pick your guys brains first!

There are two adjustments that can be done to the box. I forget what the technical terms are but do a Google search and watch a video on it.

The Bronco sport is on the same platform as the Escape.

I have to say those pics of the truck in your driveway, nothing screams MERICA more than a pristine square body in a dirt driveway surrounded by fields and chickens lol. Love it.

134 should have POE oil. I don't know what will happen if it is in a system with the old mineral oil from r12 systems

Amen to that! I think it’s probably the perfect truck for where I’m at out here in rural Wyoming.
