Started about 12:30 am when my wife took Greta out and heard some squealing from our 23 yr old AC condenser and came and got me up. Who the hell wants to pay holiday type prices to get something fixed? Not me, if possible.
The fan wasn't moving. With each of us on our phones I had her shut it off at the thermostat while I used a paint stirrer to get it spinning again. I had her turn in on and it did spin but very slow. I thought maybe cooling it off would help so I had her shut it off again and while on the deck and not too close I hosed it down. I'm not crazy, rain gets in there. Anyway the amount of steam was what was crazy. Gave it a couple minutes, and noticed it was very slowly spinning (backwards) while shut off. I figured it was because of the hose pushing it a few minutes earlier and it must be nice and loose so that's better, right? Had the wife turn it back on and it very slowly decided to spin the right direction but never got anywhere near up to speed. Shut it off and again it started spinning backwards on it's own.
I don't know if it was the fan motor or the capacitor or controller of some sort but I pulled the jumper(whatever) from the electric panel right there and pulled that fan off and replaced it myself.
FWIW my idea of adding the duct tape to hang the cord from the railing is to keep heavy dew and/or light rain from kicking the GFCI.
Then
I spent most of the 4th in my son's rusty YJ with him at at Southington Off Road. It was an extra $10 because they were having fireworks at 9:30 PM.
Maybe taller tires would have helped. You can see where someone before us was dragging the differential.
After 9 hours in the heat and my son supposed to go to a friends 4th party we headed home. I took a shower, a nap and had supper. It was about 8:00 so I cheated somewhat and put son's used wristband on my wife, his YJ's used day pass on my TJ, put the puppy in the back and went to check out the fireworks. Everyone was cool with everything but the set up was kinda crazy. We were probably 100 yards away from where they were being set off and there was a random row of various 4x4s about 20 yards closer. Even more were farther away, probably 150 or so total. The fireworks were non stop for well over 1/2 hour.
Here's one going off while I was facing the other direction, and if you look in the upper right corner you can also see some other fireworks from God knows where.
Greta (the puppy) did pretty good. She insisted on watching them fly but when the first one popped she ran one direction then stopped to watch the second one. When it popped she ran the other direction and turned to watch again. This happened 5 or 6 times before I took her off the leash and just held her. I thought she might be shaking and nervous at that point but she wasn't.
