well, after being convinced that the oil drops from my 04 LJ were RMS, I drove over 2 counties interviewing mechanics to find one who was really familiar with replacing the RMS on a 4.0. even contacted a member on this forum, from my area, for recommendations.

and I did crawl over, under and all over. (with my HF 390 lumen folding LED light. I love it.) oil was obviously "leaking from bell housing", as well as blowing all across,

I needed some other work done by my local "country boy" mechanic, so I asked him to install a fel pro gasket and new vent valves, grommets on valve cover.

guess what. 2 weeks and not a single oil drop.

2 things I learned from this:
1. I ain't nearly as smart as I think I am
2. always start with the easiest, cheapest part/repair

Glad you got it figured out!

The rear main seal on the TJ is easy to replace on a 4.0 in comparison to most other cars that require you to drop the transmission in order to replace it.

I guess that's a benefit of the two piece design. Now whether it's a good design is up in the air. However, I've never had a rear main seal leak on any of my 4.0s, so I guess that's a good thing!

well, I'm 70 years old, so maybe easy, but not for me.
just thought my experience might help some with the same issues, before they spent a lot of money.
anyway, apologize for the infantile post on your board. won't happen again.

No apologies needed at all. Not sure why you felt the need to apologize?

If my post came across the wrong way, I sincerely apologize. I'm not sure why it would have, but maybe you took it the wrong way?

Nice. Do you happen to have the part numbers for the vents and grommets? Mine are seeping a little.
And like Chris said, not sure why you thought you needed to apologize for anything.

Every bit of information people post on this board about something fixed on their TJ is an asset to others that may not know yet. The more the better, it’s a great repository. My RMS went out as well. Having read this board, as soon as it started dripping I knew what it was and had it replaced. No more drip.
