Need some help with a non standard build

So, I just looked through my own junk pile; I have an intact and relatively-new set of Rampage (say it in an Archer voice) bumpers that are large, heavy and goofy enough for this project. You can have them in exchange for some non-goofy stuff from your junk pile, per our previous conversation.

Probably one of the funniest episodes of that show that I ever watched.

@mrblaine AEG is a good cheap choice for bumpers IMO. I had a front bumper and rear tire carrier for awhile and they looked nice and seemed well built. Powder coat was high quality.

They have an “aggressive” variety of different styles both front and rear that your client could pick from. It wouldn’t be hard to get a set for under $500.

He has no intentions of doing serious offroad but if the need shows up, it's better to have them than not. He is aware enough of what they are to request them and after a pointed conversation, his answers made enough sense to include them in the build.

Same with those Halo LED headlights. It's just importers here selling the same stuff under different names.

I did some research on these while at Rugged Ridge and was able to source them to one place that was making them over in China and warehousing them in Cali. Then they either private label them to all the other companies selling them, or the companies buy them direct from the manufacturer in China. This is super common in the "one stop shop" companies such as Smitty, Rugged Ridge, Rampage/Lund, etc.

Whatever you do, stay away from them if you want a happy client. The only reason to use these is if you cant afford to spend a penny more and are okay with rust and powder coat chipping off all the time. I've also made better looking welds with JB Weld...

Maybe I'm missing something but it sounds pretty straightforward. The guy wants specific looks. There are tons of lower end bumpers that fit the budget and his desired outcome. He isn't doing anything serious, he knows it, and doesn't want the expense of armor and tummy tucks. If he gets more into the lifestyle then maybe that will all change. I think you should be flattered that this guy came to you to set it up for him when he could have gone to some franchise store. If I lived near Quail Valley I would want you to set up my jeep as well, even if it wasn't going to be a hardcore build.

I have the Hanson offroad and I like it because it fit my 8274 but they have mounts for more common winches. Ebay is a good cheaper source for them. I ldont like the bull bar bullshit and these are made to different widths. I went with the wider one for better coverage if I get hit. Oh and made in the USA...

I've been thinking about this "non standard" build.

My suggestion is to refuse to cut corners by purchasing cheap chinese bumpers and other parts. Just because it won't be a Johnson Valley Rockcrawler doesn't mean it won't still be a Blaine Johnson build.

My suggestion for bumpers and swingout carrier is RockHard 4x4. Not the cheapest, but well made. The front bumper works well for hooking up a tow bar and the rear swingaway doesn't rattle. I like the latch better than most others.

Well you might have to suffer some additional battiness; the LTL rates on my junk-pile aren't looking too good, but we're still trying.

If you go with the bestop tire carrier that would open up the options for bumpers quite a bit. I'm pretty happy with mine, can't remember what size tires you were going with on this build though.

But it doesn't rattle and it opens with the tailgate which I like a lot.
