Can someone please tell me which wires do which function on a 2004 Rubicon front turn signal’s and how to keep the LED turn signals from making the lights light up the turn signal indicators on the dash with the new LM 407 relay

My sons TJR has the same issue with the turn signal indicators dimly lit using the LED turn signal bulbs and the LM 470 relay. We’ve tried re-grounding and double grounding without success.

I had similar, though it was only one turn signal indicator that was dimly lit. When I switched from MCE fenders to the GR, I also switched from a three wire LED (one unused) to a two wire LED. The dimly lit turn signal went away.

I thought it was a LM 470 relay?

I've got the electronic chops to get all my exterior lights converted to LED but to me the effort is not warranted. I have LED tail lights and LED headlights but LED lights in the turn signals and running lights are a PITA to get running properly once converted to LED. It partially has to do with circuits like the side markers switching polarity when the headlights are turned on which isn't allowed by LED bulbs which conduct in just one direction. To me it's better just to convert the circuits you're having trouble with back to incandescent bulbs so the circuit can operate as it was designed to.

I hear ya- seems the juice aint worth the squeeze.

The fix is making up some small diode/resistor packs that you splice to the side markers, which makes them independent of the front turn signal. Currently the side markers depend on the fronts for ground which is what screws everything up. Whether it's worth it or not totally depends on the owner of the Jeep and their preferences and capabilities. It's not difficult, you just need to understand the problem and what you're doing to fix it and then it makes perfect sense.

Great job on the fenders. I've always loved the look of @Plumber1's Jeep. I was hoping he would install some for me for some Tito's and Tacos. 🥳

Thanks Boog, I know you appreciate good cosmetics-

These things weren’t easy -

I got radical with the passenger side - finally a reason for a hi lift

Even with all the wires disconnected up front my turn signal dash indicators are both on- Now I wonder if I have the wrong relay or a bad one

It was the correct relay.

All done, no drama, no diodes.
No dash turn signals indicators on, no hyperblinking.

Delete the turn leads and bulbs

Wire the marker yellow wire to each front turn signal marker wire- gray left, brown right -

Tie the white together from each marker and turn signal and wire it to the black ground so its shared.

Wire each black turn signal wire to the black/yellow lead -

Now the fronts are turn only

Marker work done by the stealth wire.

Then tag @Plumber1 so he knows you are creepin’ him.

Will clean up wires later- rather see them come through a grommet in side of grill up high.

Now to detail underneath with black paint

Did you get the side markers on, Just making sure you are replecating it correctly. 🤣

Well yes and no- I’m out of thread on the hood catch bolt since it is going through two fenders and now I wish I’d lopped off that corner but the bracket below it gives it all a lot of strength. I zip tied these on because I was so anxious to join the club.

I may use a stubby self tapping screw sheet metal and screw it to the bracket. Whatever I do I want it sturdy and clean. The bracket has a roll for strength that might be good to tap into.

I really went all out to wire brush it, prep unpainted metal, used urethane sealant at the bolt up connections, and instead of the rivets up top I had some milk jug screws- so I got some flat washers and nylon nuts and used those - looks good and stout.

I followed the entire “How to make your TJ look like Plumber’s” free download on the help page. I like the note on page one -“Caution- just remember, you might be in a Trans Am but you still ain’t Burt Reynolds when this is done”

I want to do a thread on my assembly, as another excuse to keep posting the same pictures over and over. 🙄

Your TJR has always been an eye catcher on here, and the cool thing is the places it goes.

I know it’s not been an easy year for you, and wanted you to know there are people out there that admire your rig and look forward to seeing you post.

Thanks for the compliments, and your getting closer all the time.

And you are correct this has been the worst year of my life, the 23rd of this month will be the first time this year my rig has been on a trail.

Loosing my son a few months back who was my co-pilot, co-driver, co-spotter and best friend has taken a lot out of my desire to go jeeping. This forum has kept my interests in jeeping, and I may go with one of my best friends to Death Valley in November. Keep up your posts as it helps keep me going and busy in the evenings.

God Bless

PS: This is the TJ I always loved and then copied,

It took awhile to get the matching wheels though. ;)

I have
LED sequential front markers
LED sequential side markers
LED rear tail lights
LED headlights
LED interior lights
LED gauge lights

Mine all work fine with that special relay on the turn signal circuit.

The ONLY issue Ive run into, just happenstance noticed when I put my flashers on, it makes the new BOSS stereo headunit light up brighter and dimmer. Weird, but apparently I think I hooked up the dimmer wire

I did wire in a resistor with my drivers side rear LED tail light. Cant confirm if that helps tho

Why did you need to clamp the fender to the tub like that? I don't remember having to do anything like that. Once you bolt the fender to the firewall and the grille it is in place.

Could you provide a link with the diode/resistor packs you used?

Because my sorry butt didnt want to pull the battery and it was not pulling up tight to the grill, and had a slight “lip” at the side where it meets the tub-something was holding it off-

So i loosened it up, got the hi lift and convinced it to move over before I drilled and bolted up the top bolts-

Also have a cool pic to post this evening in regards to that - using the genright fender install thread I think.

I use 3A diodes from DelCity and resistors from Amazon that come in a kit. Pretty much anything 1/2W or 1W for resistors will be fine. I don’t remember what ohm rating I used, somewhere around 5-600ohm I believe, but I use really bright side marker bulbs from VLEDS so depending on what bulb you use your needs will vary.

I use non insulated butt splice terminals from delcity, crimp it all together and cover in heat shrink, then tape around it. It is sort of chunky but it works fine.

I apologize for being ignorant of the electrical field (no pun intended), but do I need diodes or resistors or both if my turn signal indicators are dimly lit after the switch to LED headlights? 🤔
