New home for subwoofer

In my old (04) Jeep I had the Tuffy Security Stereo Subwoofer console, but they don't make them anymore. The stereo slot was perfect for my radio and locked up tight. Tuffy still makes a similar console, but without the holes and mounting for the subwoofer. I need my space in the rear, so no speaker box back there. Who's got ideas for where else I could mount the subwoofer, or should I just delete it? (2006 Rubicon Unlimited, manual, 4.0, stock suspension)

Can you cut a hole in the new Tuffy Console to mount the subwoofer? I'd hate to delete my subwoofer.

They make one for installing the subwoofer in. I had one and the downside is there is very little lockable space. It ends up being a very expensive place to install the subwoofer, but is a nice product overall.

Deleting a subwoofer is like listening to AM radio. It should NEVER be done.

They make one for installing the subwoofer in. I had one and the downside is there is very little lockable space. It ends up being a very expensive place to install the subwoofer, but is a nice product overall.

They advertise that this console gives 2 1/2 x's more storage than stock console. That is hard for me to believe.

Like I said, I had one in my '04. There is not much space, nowhere near as much as stock. There is enough room for my stereo faceplate and smallish pistol.

I called Tuffy and asked them if they would send me the template/plans for the sub-woofer model so I could modify their 041-01. They declined. They stopped making this model due to low demand.

I could buy the 041-01 and cut a hole, but that would expose the speaker, which I think would not be good. There is also some internal structure and the plate for the top portion of the console.

There is not enough room under the seat for the subwoofer.

The stock console is worthless from a security perspective, so I can't leave anything valuable in it.

I called the local Jeep salvage yards and they told me that's one of the first things they yank and sell in less than a week, so maybe there is some demand.

Some of us on here have powered subs under the driver's seat. Do a Google-search on this forum for Rockford Fosgate PS-8 or Sound Ordnance, and you'll find some of the threads.

1) You could measure under the driver or passenger seat, but I know that the 06's have the tilt seats and neither driver or passenger has enough room for one of the self-powered subs that are fairly popular in our TJ's. I have not personally found any speaker or self-powered sub that would fit under an 06 seat.

2) Do you have a rear seat? If you've removed the seat you could possibly use one of the rear footwells to build a box for a sub? You could mount the speaker where it is firing down and finish out the top of the box so it looks seamless in the footwell.

3) If you have a rear seat you can build a box to go under the seat for a SHALLOW MOUNT SUB. I'm actually about to build one in a few weeks. I'm aiming for 2.5 cu ft. internal volume with a 8" square sub mounted in the box. I have some dimensions somewhere.

I put mine under the passenger seat. Not sure how much different an 06 seat is but mine is actually part of the seat now. Not really under the seat I guess. I safety wired it to the springy metal part so it moves with the seat bottom.

I run a Sound Ordnance B-8PTD in my factory console, but it wasn't a simple install.

a. I had to create some hold downs for it
b. I have some foam wedged against it and the console to limit vibrations
c. I had to cut out the bottom of the console tray and glue a new bottom up a few inches.

I love the control knob since I don't always want/need the bass, but when the right song hits I can crank it up.

That one does not have the box for the stereo. The one I am looking for is called the Tuffy Security, Stereo, Sub-woofer Jeep Console. I have considered buying one of these and practicing my welding skills, but not until the heat subsides.
