New Infotainment Radio Option (Looks Stock)

Its not better. its just as good in my opinion after doing car stereo for better part of 25 years. cheap way to get carplay in a good quality head unit and not pay an arm and a leg.

It's true that all those brands are not what they used to be. Price wise though, they're about the same as the ones you recommend.

im canadian. everything up here is stupid expensive. the only sub $400 car play i can find here is from BOSS audio LOL. ill take atoto over that any day.

the key here is the wireless carplay. no brand name stereo has that for this price.

Looks like a great option for adding some modern comfort and safety without compromising stock look. Anyone tried it, any pros / cons?

Did you ever find a quality unit that fits the stock dash, has a volume knob, and supports CarPlay? Looks like there are several listings of this same unit under different brand names with fake reviews. And there’s nothing like this form factor on Crutchfield…

If you find anything good that’s not $1200 let me know. I keep looking at a couple Boss DD units. Really want CarPlay for iOS at this point. Want to be able to run OnX and a couple of cameras.

Agreed, I guess my fourth checkbox is “under $300”. It seems like the stock dash hole is somewhere between single and double din, but I don’t know how to search for that specific shape and size.

I like the idea of pointing a backup camera right in front of the front wheels to use for a trail cam / self-spotting.

The stock dash hole will accommodate a Single Din. If you don’t mind the unit hanging out of the Single Din space then one of those units like the Joying will fit in stock dash. The Double Din require the aftermarket center dash bezel which is like $80. IDK. I always look at it all and give up. I haven’t seen anything under $400, which is another reason I don’t want to buy. I also want a camera front and rear for seeing rocks mainly.

I've been running this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09X2ZDB7B/?tag=wranglerorg-20 since March 2023 with wireless carplay, sub and 4ch amp, backup camera, and physical volume knob. Carplay automatically connects, its android so you can load any of the popular off road apps and use the built in GPS recevier for non data navigation.

Downsides, the fit is "good" but not $1,200 Apline with double din bezel good. With the top off, you can get some glare/washout on the screen. Overall worth the ~$300 I paid. Also if you email customer support they will send you the software updates and if you can load a USB stick you can update the OS/Firmware in about 30min.

newest version looks to be

Got a picture of it installed? Does it not cover the HVAC vents and controls?

It does not. Last pic is where I mounted my MagSafe charger, run to an add a fuse in the glovebox, keeps the dash and area in front of the sifter free.

My point is this…

Single din radio with filler plate (wasted space) around faceplate:

1.5 DIN radio with full face, no filler plate. The shape seems to be specific to early-mid 2000s Chrysler (03-06 for the TJ) from what I am seeing. 97-02 is similar but with square edges instead of rounded. Does not stick out past dash, just big enough to have a useful screen (~7”), and doesn’t require the aftermarket double din dash piece:

@Mike_H installed one recently. It’s pretty recent in his build thread “my rusty jeep.” I’m not sure about them, but I do like that you can turn the screen towards you.

EDIT: And see Red’s above. I’m a little late replying to this thread. Sorry.

Ι see what you mean now. I do like that look. It really is nice. I prefer a reputable company to make one that fits that space like that. I’ve always liked Alpine.
