New Jeep Dog, Maybe

Separation anxiety isn't a death sentence! But this China Flu has everybody home 24/7 and a dog can get real used to it. 1 trick is to get the pup trained to like sleeping in his wire kennel at night in a separate room from all people. And try the same during the day slowly increasing the length of time everyone is away. Some dogs have more trauma as a baby pup than others, and some breeds are easier to cure than others. Angry yelling and slapping will aggravate the problem. You need to be firm (don't fall for the "puppy eyes") and consistant. Don't give up on a pup unless he is aggressive or really destructive. They dont speak our language. And as a 'pack's animal it is confusing to be separate from the rest of the pack. A few favorite toys, some say leaving the tv on (they now have a channel on tv just for dogs to watch) or radio may help. Slow and steady. I'm at home all day, every day so it is very hard for me to show my pup how to be alone.

Thanks for the advise.

I am not doing the crate thing with him. My son tried, and was going to try to do it slowly, but his work called him back and it went from slow to instant and Rocky didn't do well in the crate. With that said, all my other dogs, 4 littles and 1 big, all have the run of the house and yards all the time. So I feel trying to lock Rocky in the crate while the others run all around will not go good. So far he has done good as far as not destroying anything while I'm gone. He just paces all over looking for me.

I am on vacation right now and I am leaving each day for a different amount of time. I am trying to get him used to the fact that I am going to leave, and I am going to come back. I think things will work out, but the real test will be when I have to go back to work and leave at night and my hubby has to try to sleep. I'm hoping Rocky will have more of a sleep routine down by then. He does really good and stays on his bed by the side of my bed all night. He gets up in the morning, goes outside, then comes back in and sees me still in bed, and lays back down till I get up. Hey, maybe I need a manican to put on my side of the bed when I leave? LOL I did turn the radio on for him yesterday when hubby and I did an errand, can't say if it helped or not? I will continue to do it though so at least there is noise.

Anyway, I think I am going to splurge and get the purple net. I got to thinking on the other ones, I don't take my soft top off, so I wouldn't be able to use the tub on the corners for the cargo net.

Having a bunch of other dogs for him is a real asset. He will learn what they teach him. When he sees they don't get stressed out when you leave he should learn it is normal and ok.
I wish more people would think about their dogs emotions like you do. Most just want a dog to sit in the corner all evening and then 💩 on command just before bedtime.

Been doing this for 30 years.

We use a short leash so he cant get past the edge of the Jeep out the doors or over the tailgate.

Sampson loves to watch where we are going. He'll ride here for hours.

About how tall does Sampson stand? I'm traveling across country and trying to maximize my storage so I can carry tools and the pooch and kid and necessities. I thought about building a platform for mine but my husky might stand a little tall! Lol
