New steering damper busted

New to Jeeps...

I installed a new steering kit (Crown/RT) and damper (KYB) on a bone stock TJ. With less than 200 miles, the damper already busted and spewed fluid. What gives? I've used KYB shocks for a truck and sedan with no issues. Are their steering dampers junk or can it be something else?

Amazon? My Father in Law bought name brand shocks from them and they leaked almost immediately. I think they sit on shelves for a long time and the seals deteriorate.

No, not from Amazon. I'm surprised though. I'd think with Amazon's market dominance, their stock wouldn't sit on the shelves for too long.

I think it's the fact that they have so many sellers so it's hard to control their merchandise. I try not to buy automotive parts from them anymore--I've recieved "open box" items that clearly had been installed or attempted to install (covered in grease, etc.).

Anyway, sorry you had the issue---can you return it?

You are correct about the lack of control. I too have purchased open box items that were clearly installed and heavily used.
