A Colorado sheriff’s deputy resigned this week after officials learned she’d appeared in pornographic videos — a second career she took to “out of desperation” over mounting bills.

Shannon Lofland, a 21-year veteran of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, told CBS News Colorado that she turned to the seedy world of adult cinema because her finances had soured and she couldn’t keep up.

“I was desperate, I was drowning,” she told the station. “I found a legal, lucrative means for providing that support for my family that I needed at that time to save my home for them and feed my family.

Complete nonsense that she had to resign. Employers do NOT own you 24/7, despite recent trends in that direction. 8 hours work for 8 hours pay, and the relationship ends there. What people do off the clock and off employer's property is none of the employer's business - nor anybody else's for that matter.

I think employees paid by tax payer dollars should be held to a higher standard. After 20+ years in the police force, she was looking for an excuse to leave. She probably makes a lot more for fewer hours in adult film.

I want to know who's the coworker that ratted her out? :)

Former stripper and current murder convict Crystal Mangum confessed to lying about being raped by Duke Lacrosse players in an interview on the independent media outlet "Let's Talk With Kat" on Thursday.

"I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn't and that was wrong, and I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me," Mangum said. " made up a story that wasn't true because I wanted validation from people and not from God."

Mangum, who is serving a prison sentence for murdering her boyfriend, falsely accused three Duke players of raping her while she was performing at a team party in March 2006. The players she accused were arrested, igniting a national controversy and conversations about racism.

The three players, David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann, were all found not guilty of the crimes. But Mangum was not prosecuted for perjury due to questions about her mental health.

"She may have actually believed the many different stories that she has been telling," said former North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said at the time.

Mangum can not be prosecuted for perjury now because statute of limitations on perjury charges in North Carolina only lasts around two years.

The allegations even resulted in the team having to cancel a game against Georgetown in March 2008.

Former Durham County district attorney Mike Nifong, who served as the lead prosecutor in the case, said in a March 2006 interview with CBS News that "there's no doubt a sexual assault took place," and that it was "racially motivated."

"The information that I. have does lead me to conclude that a rape did occur." Nifong said. "The circumstances of thc rape indicated a deep racial motivation for some of the things that were done. It makes a crime that is by its nature one of the most offensive and invasive even more so"

Nifong was later disbarred on June 16, 2007, by the North Carolina State Bar for lying in court and withholding DNA evidence which ultimately absolved the defendants of responsibility for Mangum’s allegations.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

The 9th commandment. Remember that violating any of the 10 commandments was a capital offense.

MESA, Ariz. — Multiple UPS employees have been arrested by Mesa police for allegedly redirecting packages to their homes instead of shipping them to their intended destination.

Casey Bedell, 31, Jeremy Large, 33, Bo Arias, 34, and David Panasci, 31, were taken into custody this week after Mesa police responded to a UPS facility near Higley Road on Dec. 17 for reports of a fraud.

Public records show the workers allegedly admitted to partaking in a scheme that involved creating fraudulent shipping labels with fake names and placing them on packages in order to mail the items to their personal residences.

The suspects would allegedly remove packages of electronics from the facility's shipping line and change their shipping address.

Mesa police searched the Valley homes of the suspects and reported finding the stolen items, records show.

One of the suspects allegedly told police they had been conducting the scheme for the last 12 months. UPS discovered the alleged fraud after conducting an internal investigation and contacted local authorities.
