odds of evolution

Then you understand why it is absolutely bizarre to revolve your life around a middle eastern Bronze Age tribal deity that was borrowed from other multiple contemporary tribal deities, then repurposed into a first century acopolytic cult, before it was repurposed as a way to consolidate power in Europe after the fall of the Roman empire. The fact that this belief has persisted into America to become the abomination that is evangelical Christianity is both fascinating and terrifying.

No, I understand questioning and doubt.
Jesus has become very real and clear to me. Its not something anchant, its a relationship here and now.

Doubt and questioning is the very reason I recognize the lack of evidence for the supernatural.

Doubt and questioning is why I also recognize the lack of evidence for Brahma as a force that interacts with the natural world. I suspect you agree with this assertion.

I have learned a lot from discussion on this forum. I didn't even know what Brahma was so I had to go research a little.

You have issue with me using the Bible for evidence so you will most likely disregard the following: I will try to keep it short.

At the tower of babble God divorced mankind and gave stewardship of mankind over to 70 of his created deities as punishment. Mankind's goal at the time from what is written, one place to come and negotiate one on one with God thus becoming equal. God said they would succeed in doing this, so He put separation between Himself as the most high, and mankind with some of his council the created deities.

Paul calls all created deities ministering spirits. When God made man in His image the deities naturally became servants to man. When satan tested Jesus in the desert he took Him to a high place and said all this was handed over to me, that was by the man Adam. The devils kingdom of darkness was not built, it was not worked for, it was cheated out and away from the granted one that had dominion, through deception and lies. Jesus calls him the father of lies.

Some of the deities have done different things to try to change their position of steward or servant to mankind. on Mt. Hermon some made a covenant with one another to defile themselves with the daughters of man. The Bible says that the daughters of man were beautiful...... what made them beautiful? They could reproduce and the deities are not able too. So they married (had sex) with them to get the deity off spring into mankind as a way of getting themselves authority position in mankind.

The ones that were given stewardship by God are talked about in Psalm 82 where Jesus confronts and judges them. They ended up teaching history but adding lies to it claiming the works of God in creation to be their own to distort mankind's understanding.

Finally all of this is to say that these deities have been lying, cheating, and stealing the rights from mankind and the longer they keep man believing they are gods over man the longer they stay out of final judgment and satan believes that if he can keep it up long enough and convince man of all satans lies the kingdom of darkness will in fact become larger than the Kingdom of God. This is why it is dangerous to dabble in witchcraft, sorcery, or any other form of supernatural deviation. Only the Holy Spirit has the authority to properly guild anyone in that area....... if He chooses to do so.

So do I believe deities interact with the world? on the condition that man gives them authority to do so but it through lack of understanding and belief in the lies that the deities have push into mankinds belief system. This is the very reason for Jesus, he bridged the way back to God the father. Jesus came to make a way to the truth as the truth sets you free. That is why I also believe that because I know this and God almighty is for me than what can stand against me. Yes troubles come and things I do not understand happen but I find my rest in the truth, the written constitution of the Kingdom of God, my Bible which is explained to me by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is a claim. The Bible is not evidence. Hindu scriptures are a claim. Hindu scriptures are not evidence. There is no evidence of the supernatural interacting with the natural world.

Incidently, Paul made a claim that he saw the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus. There is no evidence that Paul saw Jesus. There is no reason to believe that Paul is an Apostle of Jesus beyond Paul's claim that he is an Apostle of Jesus.

You and I are, of course, coming from different directions. You're an Atheist, and I'm a Theist - in fact I'm far more of a Theist than any Christian/Moslem/Jew. But you keep on repeating the same thing, and it is being completely ignored - you just cannot separate a monotheist from his BOOK. It just isn't possible - they worship the thing and its their Alpha and Omega. They don't worship their God(s), they worship their BOOK. They don't talk about The Christ, they talk about the Bible and may mention "JAYSUS" once in a while. And they're pre-occupied with SEE-YUN, and sometimes something they call "Morality", but you seldom hear a peep about ethics. Paul is the worst example of anything I can think of - I can only hope that the guy's words have been so distorted and hacked that their original meaning has been lost because I utterly reject "Paulism" as its generally thought of.

The thing about books - and BOOKs - are that they are obsolete the moment they are written. They are - at best - a snapshot in time in a constantly changing universe. Thus comes the ancient idea that writing is, if not exactly "evil", at least not particularly reliable because the ONLY constant in the Universe is that of CHANGE. Now by that standard, the Bible is - or would be if it hadn't been hacked to death - more accurate than the Bhagavad-Gita as its thousands of years newer. But few monotheists can see this as they are absolutists, with all the problems that mode of thought entails. There are sources newer than the Bible which should be - all things being equal but they seldom are - more up to date and more accurate. But the monotheists/absolutists are blind to anything other than their chosen BOOK. The Hindus know better as do most non-monotheistic and relativistic thinkers. Of course, relativism is utter anathema to the monotheist, just as absolutism is to most polytheists, and I would guess - GUESS - to Atheists as well. *shrug*

I don't have the answers - and I don't pretend to. Everyone's spiritual journey is their own, and such things are best left to each individual to find out for themselves. Those that wish to slavishly depend on a BOOK are free to do so, but their BOOK isn't the center of the universe for everyone else. I could make much the same statement about the smartphone!

Off to dance class I go...

Religion is little more than identity politics. People want to belong to a group. The group wants conformity and obedience to the group.

The primary issue with this thread is that it's premise was entirely dishonest. The second issue with this thread is that it quickly turned into a Christian circle jerk of guys who know nothing about science and biology complaining about something that disagrees with their dogmatic ideology and their identity politics.

People want to belong to a group
You do not know me. I haven't been in what I assume you call a group I will call a church in 10 years. I take that back I have been to a few funerals. I have a relationship and the Bible is the living word of God.

You really have to explain this to me. No, I wasn't the one who asked the question but a person did ask ChatGPT and they got the answer and I posted the video in the CHatGPT tread. Where or what is dishonest about that?

No one asked ChatGPT anything. The only thing you did was repost a Facebook propaganda video with a cute animation of a robot.

Everybody wants to belong to a group, including me. My group of choice isn't religious, its Belly Dancers - although interestingly, Paganism of one sort or another is pretty much the majority "religion" found among said Belly Dancers with Eastern religions coming in as a strong second. I'm not sure which begat which, but it is generally true, although I certainly do know monotheistic Belly Dancers, never mind all the Moslem Belly Dancers "over there".

pretty much redundant answer but I will post it in both of my posts

You are correct. No one likes to admit their wrong but I when I am wrong I try to own it the best I can.

I believe that it lined up with my beliefs and just agreed with it without scrutinizing the video itself. No sure how you caught it so quickly but I guess I just wanted to believe it.

it makes me made though when anyone who is defending their thoughts, belief, ideas, or plan of action creates a blatant lie to help prove their point. There is no reason to Lie about God and creation, it is what it is.

The immediate tell was the language in the FB video comes straight out of evangelical anti-science talking points. This thread and all others like it are full of them. These same anti-science talking points have been around for decades and immediately reveal how that person does not understand what science is or how it works.

These same people also do not understand that science is not a religion or that science progresses and improves specifically because it tries to disprove itself. What survives these continual attacks is most likely to be accurate. Further attacks to disprove what is likely to be accurate only serve to refine that accuracy.

Science actively works to disprove itself in order to reveal the natural world. Religion actively does the opposite by forcing the natural world to conform to it's presupposed ideologies.

If the claims of the Bible or any other holy book could be tested, repeated, and predicted in a controlled, objective manner, then these claims would be supported with evidence.
