odds of evolution

Do Christians ever consult a thesaurus? There are plenty of other ways to say the same thing, but its ALWAYS "mock". The 19th century called, they want their semi-obsolete word back. It literally sets my teeth on edge, the only one worse to my mind is "jab" - which makes me want to just shoot myself.

I mock mock, and I mock mocks, which means I mock mock mocks! :D

So if the Bible is a legal "testament" (another quasi-obsolete word for that matter), that explains much. That would be the source of dogma - and legalism - both of which I utterly reject. My karma ran over your dogma... ;)

The vocabulary of American Christianity is saturated with virtue signals and identity markers to become an anachronistic Bible speak intended to potray a sense of piousness and authority. Much of it comes from King James England era verbage that has survived the last 400 years into modern day English.

...

the english language is the most vague. word meaning is lost. My favoriate word to give this example is the word love. I believe the english language was invented to disotort and hide the true meaning of specifically the Bible. Some of you call it a book but it is again, a testament, A legal document. and no matter who tries to hide it, burn it, or nulify it. We still have it. It is the most reconized book in the world because it is the legal document! There is no worship there but there is the utmost value placed in the constitution for what it is. thus the saying, it is what it is

Fascinating. What other languages were invented to distort and hide the true meaning of specifically the Bible? Also, who invented the English language? When and where did this occur?

I've noticed that. All the "thees" and "thous", "mock" of course, "testament", "covenant", and many other words only heard in Bible-speak. Of course, certain branches of Paganism aren't immune from it either, "An" (for "if", which is actually Greek) and "mote" come to mind.

Covenant is an agreement between parties involved . It could be a covenant that God presented between Himself and his people , or as common as a HOA
dealing with the wingnuts that want to live under their domain . It is a common term in my opinion . However God is much more gracious dealing with people than HOA's are .

There are no agreements to be had with the supernatural. All parties to an agreement need to be entities that exist in the natural world.

Yea, its used in a legal context as well. Still uncommon.

All of them are - but they still primarily occur in Bible speak.

Still in common use for serious contracts , of course the covenant between God and his people perhaps has the greatest impact on mankind .

That's fine - but I'd rather use other language that is actually mainstream. "Agreement" or even "Contract" would make more sense to me...

Another one is "costly". Seldom used outside of Bible speak - "expensive" or "pricey" is what is common today.

I can appreciate that , however the connection between you and mainstream actually made me laugh out load .

We can all likely agree that in this day and age, the two arenas where most are familiar with covenants is either their housing development and their christian church. Each covenant is going to specific to the housing development, the same way that each Christian denomination and sect is going to have varying terms to the agreement. There is no overarching consistency from one group to another. We know this because there have been countless schisms and divisions over the last 2000 years often with the new group being the one true heir to the fulfillment of the covenant.

The one that makes me want to punch little kittens is "mock" - I don't know why, I really don't have a clue, but that word just sets my teeth on edge, much like "Jab".

Are you asking for a modern day English translation? Wouldn't that be a further distortion of the true meaning of the Bible?

Everyone knows Mach 1 sounds right , Mock 1 just isn't the same . This is the same kinda thing as " Anywho " is for me. Drives me a little nuts.

Explain the pathway of the laryngeal nerve in both humans and giraffes from the perspective of intelligent design. 😀

Maybe you need to look at the comparison again. You bring up the laryngeal nerve. A simplistic nerve that works in harmony with detailed nervous system. That is remarkable. Thank you
