Oil pressure on 4.0

NO it's not. At least if you were accurate in your first post saying you have a 1997 model TJ. I don't know why you keep dragging this out, the pressures you gave are normal for a 1997 TJ.
Lol Jerry, I am just trying to make sure i don't grenade my only mode of transportation. So i have to cross all the T's and dot all of my I's. I will get a new sensor. see if that fixes things.

It's your wallet, but I'd probably throw a new Mopar oil pressure switch/sender at it. Worst case it doesn't help and you have a spare for the day your current one does die which at that age could be whenever.

I would not worry about actual issues though. Typically oil problems are all or nothing. Usually if you have any pressure really at all, you're good. Usually actual issues are true 0 psi cases where the oil pump pickup is starved or you lost all your oil or whatever else. If you've got 15 psi at idle then you've got enough, which is really all that matters. I think the root issue though is your sender getting finicky.
I think imma leave this here, i think jerry might track me down and smash my computer. 😂

03+ uses an oil pressure switch instead of an oil pressure sensor. It has one wire, when oil pressure is above x PSI, the switch closes and sends a ground signal. It does not have a way of measuring oil pressure, it just knows if it has more than x PSI.

How can you fix a gauge that is indicating correct pressures for your model year? I guess I should just say nevemind, your gauge is special and the normal pressures yours is reading are only incorrect for your personal TJ... they're just correct for all other '97 TJs. I'm not trying to be a total asshole, getting close to it though, here but the pressures you indicated are.... 100%....perfectly....normal for a 1997 TJ. Believe it/me or not.

lol ok ok, its normal.

my 97 would drop low at a stop and sometimes it would drop to almost 0 when i let the clutch out and the check gauges light would come on along with the buzzer, but would rise as the rpm came up. and then run a little over 40. about a month ago i noticed they were putting 5w30 in it. last oil change i told them only 10w30 high mileage. hasn't done it since the oil change, now stays above 20 at idle.

My 97 did the same so I changed the sender. Didn't seem to change the behavior so I replaced the oil pump when I did the RMS. Now it stays between 40-60psi. When I first started it up after changing the pump it idled at 65....I was expecting it to idle at 0 since I couldn't get it primed, so I guess 65 is better than no pressure. It's been a few months and I've never got the check gauges light since, but I probably ought to be paying some mind to what that gauge is doing (so if it ever changes I'll know).

So my 06 idiot gauge goes above the middle sometimes by over 1/4 of what's left if I hit the gas pedal hard going up through the gears or drop to third and tramp it to overtake but stays in the centre at idle and while driving normally? Vibrations? gauges all work with the inbuilt gauge test?

so i idle around 20ish and then start driving a little below operating temp and it’s a little below 60 then a little around driving it’s goes to 40ish i assume it’s normal because it’s a fresher motor.

how are you enjoying that jeep buddy ? you've had it about a year now, hope you enjoy it !

If you have any doubt, get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge ( mechanical ) , observe the variance cold/ hot ,idling ,cruising…..keep records
Reinstall original…..
A lower then normal oil pressure is normaly a sign of loose crankshaft bearings

The AMC V8 never had a high oil pressure hot idling and they would last…..

Any doubts
Get a mechanical aftermarket oil pressure gauge, you’ll get the truth reading,
Compare to your original gauge

When idling oil pressure is lower then usual,it’s a sign of worn crankshaft bearings
Not unusual to obtain 10-20 lbs hot & idling
The AMC V8 had about 10 pds idling when hot ,,,,,,went to 35-40 when cruising

it’s been great i currently have a check engine light for my trans fluid needing changed which i’m dreading!
As above, your 32RH will not/cannot generate a code for the ATF needing to be changed. The only CEL I can think of for the 32RH indicates its torque converter didn't lock once it reached cruising speed.

i had the code scanned it’s for torque converter clutch solenoid
Exactly. It doesn't know when the ATF needs to be replaced. :)

By the way you could have generated that code on your own if you have a later 2000 model. That ability exists for all TJs except 98 to mid '00. Turn the ignition switch on-off-on three times within 5 seconds and then leave it in the On position. Give the diagnostics time to run and any stored codes will then start showing up in the odometer while the CEL light flashes.
