ONLY during the winter months?

Mopar M-090 oil filter
Valvoline High-Mileage 10W-30 oil

During the warmer spring/summer months my Jeep produces absolutely no lifter-tick noise whatsoever...while running or at startup...quiet as a church mouse. But as soon as the cooler months come around it will tick (sounds like BB's in a can) for 1-2 seconds just at startup and then quiet as a church mouse from that point on. Is this common for hydraulic lifters cause when I googled this question it's not only Jeep that seems to have hydraulic lifter noise but Ford, Audi, GM just to name a few.?
 
I think it has to do with the oil viscosity not doing its job during cold weather. I live in New England so I swap to 5w-30 during winter months. You could experiment with that, but your profile says you are in the southwest so my assumption is it is not cold where you are...
