Operation Phoenix

Slow down man!!!

It’s putting me to shame!

I've had that transmission and the transfer case out so many times it's an hour job tops.

I was debating leaving it in the Jeep but dreading trying to line it all up solo.

Problem solved.

Now can I clear the engine bay...

Let all the air out of the tires and danced around not disconnecting or discharging the AC for an hour...finally wiggled everything out...then on a whim I pressed the valve on top of the compressor and it's dead empty...sigh...Ive had a new compressor sitting on a shelf for years...ordered a new condenser and receiver drier... probably need to buy some gauges. Neighbor has a vacuum pump. So with that I disconnected the lines and fully removed the front grill...man I should paint it...scope creep...stop. At least the path is clear...

Oh, yeah... engine is out...now let's pull the crank pulley and resume assembly of the new one.

Your stairs aren't to code. 🙃

Your stairs aren't to code. 🙃

Yes, actually they are...the railing however is not.

I don't have enough driveshafts and axles yet to build the railing I'm envisioning...think dragon throne in game of thrones.

Stripped most of what I needed off my original engine. Wondering if my radiator is leaking. Pressure tester...and a crank bolt. Trip to town for tomorrow...

Oh and two exhaust bolts were finger tight and Im pretty sure it was on 3-4...so maybe I burned up the exhaust valve.

Damn radiator has a pinhole leak. Lost .8 psi in three hours. Ordered a Koyorad. This is getting expensive.

Also decided to drill out and tap my oil port. Didn't have the guts to do it before because I don't have a spare. Much much cleaner.

Engine mounts, water pump and timing cover all bolted down.

Oil pan, clutch and transmission next. Probably going to swing the engine is headless. Exhaust valves aren't passing leak tests...more pitting than I like. New ones will be here Friday. Also ordered push rods.

Just watched a YT video where they talked about lifters and how you DON'T soak them in oil because you'll hydrolock them with the internal check valve. Grr. Looking at my plastic bag of lifters and oil. Probably going to disassemble and drain.

Ok...power steering pump disassembled and reservoir swapped for the XJ engine... didn't trust that pump so I did a swaparoo to fix me accidentally breaking off the return nipple.

Box from Bulletproof arrived with a new phone cradle with inductive charging. The USB plug on my phone and the battery are about shot. Might buy me another year before I have to replace it. Also got their April Fools crash symbol... because you really need a dash mounted symbol. Now I need a small drumstick.

Everything is bolted on the engine that I can on the stand. Exhaust valves won't be here until Friday so head is still off.

Ran to town for a Dorman oil pan. The XJ pan is trashed...flange is torn...and I'm trying not to tear down too much of engine 1.0. Funny enough the Dorman pan has a corner dinged in and came with oily used surgical gloves. Good enough for me.

Wondering if I should replace the power steering lines. Pretty crunchy.

Wait - what was that sound?

Oh year - Zorbster hitting the "Ignore" button...

:)

Great work, Mac.

Well on that note...I noticed a tiny little chip in my piston. From my understanding of things that can cause a hot spot and melt a piston. So do I hit it with a rolloc or replace the piston. Grr. I was being really careful...

Well...good news the Koyorad radiator arrived a day early and the bad news is I probably accidentally ordered one for a Cherokee. So got the right one ordered but it won't be here until next Wednesday.

Since the original only has a pinhole leak I'll probably run it. There was a ton of corrosion in engine 2.0 so we'll fill it with radiator flush and let it clog up the leaking radiator instead of the new one.

Messed around with little things. Tensioner pulley install. Cleaned up bolts... would like to get some new conical washers for the exhaust.

Pulled the exhaust valves from the head...I had lapped them previously but they're heavily pitted and three of them leaked with no pressure. New valves tomorrow so I settled down for some conciliatory exhaust porting. Really more smoothing out the casting...but it can't hurt.

Oh and recovered my eight...might be ninth boat from the woods. Almost got the truck stuck. Need to get my Jeep running.
