Operation Phoenix

No knock! Couldn't sleep. 2:30 am pulled the exhaust... having a v band just under the skid makes this easy...pulled the pan. Greased up a bunch of washers. Mopped the metal out of pan. Right stuff and a copper washer on the oil drain plug. Torqued everything up. Fresh oil.

If I had run it a bit longer it was self clearancing...

SWEET!!! Glad you got it figured out...

The Energizer Bunny on Crack looks and Mac and just shakes his head....

🙂

Yep

Need to start working on a summer wheeling schedule with him so I've got a one-man filming crew.... The way he scampers

Drove to town zero issues. Definitely need to relearn my RPM ranges for shifting and a little bit of throttle and she likes to rev.

Oil temp feels a lot more accurate around 165-185. Oil pressure was 67 at 3k rpm.

Drive back got check gauges and the voltage dropped to zero. Rebooting solved the issue but repeated over 3k rpm.

Got home, cleaned up tools, shop. It's a disaster. Going to take all week to clean things up.

Puttered with the Jeep. Brand new MasterPro belt was shredded. Lost a rib. Threads of belt tangled in the alternator and power steering pump...bottom of which is damp, so not sure that o-ring worked.

Loosened up the belt a touch. Need to look up the suggested AC Delco belt...or order the AC one and put the compressor on.

Couple oil pan bolts were loose. Checked torque on all of them. Drain pan bolt is oozing...despite right stuff, a copper washer and tighten it down hard.

Tightened the ground bolts on the alternator. Tightened the transmission mount to slid plate bolts. Put the plastic cover back on the engine harness. I don't like these EV6 adapter plugs so I might repin the factory connectors. Painless has pigtails I can harvest for $6 ea.

Installed the Bulletproof wireless charger cradle...not sure it's gonna hold the phone wheeling. Installed a ball and the old mount for the passenger.

Ok been a couple of weeks of fine tuning things. Adjusted the exhaust... discovered a Banks exhaust gasket in the box. It's got a lip that sits inside the header and takes all the struggle out of aligning the down pipe.

Top came off. Full doors swapped for my half doors. Someone's gonna have to remind me of where I put the full doors next fall.

Moved my toolboxes to the shop. That was a multi day excavation.

Stole @Woodrow 's body armor. Learned stainless bolts - real ones from a real bolt supplier in town not the Amazon stainless I normally use. Aluminum antisieze fixed that issue. Drilled holes. Massaged dents. Nutserts, nylocks and fender washers.

When I get home I think I will pull the armor, paint it red to match the tub and put my steel 16 lbs ea...yes they are heavier than the aluminum at 12.5 lbs ea back on.

I ordered an aluminum welder. One to fill in any extra holes. There's one...tiny detail...not worried about it. Two...to make aluminum fenders. Our local metal shop wants $320 for 10' of 3" 6061 3/16" channel and can't get me anything smaller than a 4x8 sheet of 6061 at $730. Yes, $1050 for the privilege of making my own fenders.

Knocked about 5 lbs of dirt out of the corners. Need to seal those up. Might just use duct tape.

My neighbor is working on winning a sign contract from the Forest Service. We run our FOFCW.org non profit and organize all our trash pickups. As part of that contract he's going to order a connex of aluminum sheet from China. I'm going to glom on to that order and buy enough aluminum for a couple of car trailers, a small box with rooftop tent trailer for the Jeep and some other pieces. It's litterly an 1/8th of the cost.

Swapped the spare with one of the rear tires. Need to check fluid levels in the rear diff and transfer case. I don't like how warm they were the other day. My high flow Magnaflow cat gets ungodly hot.

Need to start packing camping gear tomorrow. Going super minimalistic. Tent cot, fridge, stove and a box of food. I'll splurge and bring the Starlink Mini.

Winch Hill 1 on Fordyce?

On the road to Sand Hollow. Took off after work. On 140 just over the Nevada line. No cell service so running Starlink.

Jeep ran great. Getting about 11.5-11.75 mpg. Gas was $5.10. I hate eastern Oregon gas stations. I brought two 1 gallon gas cans just for this area...run out of gas twice depending on a station that was closed when you get there.

Cooked garlic bread on the engine. Disappointed. I think the ceramic coated intake is helping.

10 hrs to go. Might drive it all tomorrow...might not.

Maybe cut down a tree for some firewood?

🙂

Made Sand Hollow. Camping in the Hurricane Cliffs BLM distributed camping area for tonight. Probably going to Sand Hollow State Park and paying my $4 entry fee cause that gets me access to a shower.

Got 10.9 MPG doing 80 mph down interstate 80 for an hour and 75-80 on an adjoining freeway south. Got 11.5 on the next...Nevada is brutal. You climb up to a 7000 foot pass then drop into a 4000 foot valley and do it over and over again. Plus it's cold. I wore my insulated coveralls until 2 pm when I stopped for a burger.

Tailgate jammed up hard at 2 pm so I pulled the cover JIC...sure enough when I rattled down a seriously washboarded road to get to the campsite it jammed up the tailgate again. Took an hour to get it to release. Adjusted the latch mechanism a few times and maybe it'll work.

Oem oil pressure gauge is doing the working not working trick again. I'll clean up the oil on the wires...I noticed it was oozing oil. That usually gets it to behave.

New location for the oil temperature sensor...drilled and tapped right into the top of the 3/8" adapter the OEM sensor is in works great. Pretty believable results.

I froze my ass off last night...zero degree down bag, two woobies and a beach towel.

Oil temp gauge said 34 this morning. It'll typically run between 150-185. Climbing a hill in 4th doing 3500 rpm it hit 203. Pressure gauge is running 60 at 3k.

Koyorad radiator is working perfectly...temp stays a jump to the left of 212 and never moves

Ooph, cold in the desert is rough. We took a fall photo trip to Zion ages ago. Brought the summer tent and uninsulated air matresses for the forecast. Actual ended up like 20° colder. Threw in the towel the last night and stayed in the worst motel I'd ever seen in Hurricane.

Not sure what you've got under the bag in the elevated tent, but adding an extra Z-pad or similar pad may boost the R-value

80mph always nose-dives my mpg with the 4.0 too. I've seen it in the high 10s to low 13s depending on headwind. Sounds like the 4.6 is running well.

Exactly! Bought a z pad at Walmart and everything was perfect. Didn't need the extra blanket...made a nice pillow since I also bought a dry bag for it...all three of my emergency blankets are in dry bags.

Almost slept in to 7... haven't slept in that much in forever...and just realized my body clock is on 6 am PST not 7 am MST.

Time to make breakfast and figure out what to do with today.
