That's shipping weight I believe. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the Savvy bumper without any options DOES NOT weigh 30 lbs. I am so sure of that that I'd bet anything on it.

I need @mrblaine to confirm this for me then.

Yes, but again, that weight and dimensions you are reading is shipping weight / dimensions I believe.

I've owned the Savvy bumper and installed it myself. Without options it's not even close to 30 lbs.

@toximus can likely verify this for me (assuming he's had it off before).

No, it actually weighs the same as the factory bumper with the rubber bumpers. Savvy with winch deck, hardware, and tow hooks weighs the same as the factory bumper with tow hooks, hardware, and rubber bumpers.

14 lbs sounds about right. I knew when I took that Savvy bumper out of the box and lifted it that it was light as hell, especially compared to the majority of other aftermarket steel bumpers.

Yup. I have that bumper on both Jeeps. I don't know the exact weight but it's light enough to carry around with one hand.

Compared to my takeoff bumper which required 2 capable adults to move across the garage.

It seems that the general rule of thumb for something similar made from aluminum vs steel is a 2-3x weight factor.

Maybe and probably not the best choice for a serious off-road kinda person, but mine never leaves the pavement so probably not a bad choice for someone like me.

Yeah, I guess so. They could just list the actual weight and the shipped weight though, what is it, a couple more key strokes for the person listing the info on their website? Some people just wanna know the installed weight, it's reasonable to expect that packing adds weight and cost also.

The previous owner of my Jeep installed JCR rock sliders as well as JCR front and rear bumpers. They look ok, but I would have preferred that it had been left with the factory bumpers. Because the rock sliders required holes to be drilled, I will probably keep them, but I'm thinking of ditching the front and rear JCR's and locating a nice set of OEM bumpers. We'll see though as I'm in no rush...

Considering how often people inherit mods from previous owners that consist of Rough Country lift kits and such, you at least got something of good quality with JCR stuff.

I've been browsing stuff I absolutely don't need to buy for days and this is the one I keep coming back to. I have zero use for better approach angles, no winch planned right now, and don't have much more weight left that I could shave off the front but I just frankly like the stubby minimal bumper look and the options to add the other stuff someday when I get to that point.

What all is it missing? I know no d-rings but it does accept the stock tow hooks which are comparable yeah? Looks like you could drill your own fog light mounting holes too and I believe it mounts both bottom and top like the stock bumper

My son purchased an 02 TJ and he and I are slowly working on it. It came with RC 3" lift and 33" tires. I have already learned that I need to switch out the RC shocks for some Rancho's. (Thanks to Chris and the rest of you for that info....these things ride like a tank.) Now he wants to change the bumpers from the originals. He is looking at bumpers like this one.

I trust this group's opinion. I am seeing these things anywhere from $280 all the way up to $1000. He is not planning to do any serious off road trips but maybe some easy trail riding. What is the consensus as to what companies to stay away from and which to look at?

That's the bumper I have on my 02 TJ. Its heavy, and I did add the rear as well. Living in KS, we don't do rock climbing, some trail stuff here in the state and that's about it. I do have a winch on mine as well, so there is a lot of weight on the nose. Until I added the rear bumper, it did add some rake to the Jeep. I also had the original shocks which were frozen. Once the new shocks were added and rear bumper installed the rake went away and now sits level.
