P0700 and P0740

The rebuild was 2580.21 with tax and labor included. I didn't do the work myself, as I don't really have time to seeing as my Jeep is my DD. For reference, my Trans had about 135K on it, which according to the forum is about the end of the lifespan for the ol' 42RLE. Definitely not the way I wanted to spend 2500 on my Jeep!
Well, that’s not bad compared to what I just spent on my Dodge diesel transmission. That was $6k+, but it came out great.

Did you do any modifications or just keep it stock?

42RLE rebuild cost is going to vary depending on where you are and what you get. I’d also caution against using anyone who says they’ll do it for considerably less than what others quote.

I’m now at over 252,000 miles on the original 42RLE in my ‘05 LJ so I check around from time to time. Rebuild is generally around $2800-$3200. I’ve also had a shop quote $5000 for a rebuild with all Mopar/Chrysler parts, replacing everything inside the case. If I bring in my own transmission, labor would be about $1100 to remove and install.

Mine was only $2100, and was recommended by a Jeep/drivetrain shop.
No complaints yet.

That's insane!

And yes I've been moding it. I've done a lift, new tires, rear locker, etc. I feel like that post about whatever the people on this forum say I do guy I saw a while back lol
