Passenger door permanently locked?

Fix one problem and another arises

Gave my key to a buddy to unlock the passenger door. Not sure what he did, but basically the key almost freely turns in the lock like it's not engaging with anything. I can't unlock from the inside either. The switch you can push to unlock, but it just goes back to the locked position when you let go. How do I open the stupid door?

Try pushing in from the outside while turning the key or latch.

Taking the door card off is possible while it's in the Jeep.

I had something similar happen after doing the exterior door handle swap mod. Had to pull the door panel while the door was closed. Definitely possible, though I think I broke and had to replace a couple of the clips.

My issue was that I didnt get it quite right when I bent one of the actuator rods and it was dragging. Yours is probably a different issue but almost certainly has to be related to one of the actuator rods.

I replaced my door handles probably 2 weeks ago, if even. I didn't swap them around, just replaced. I'll check that out

Update...I finally got around to pulling the panel off and still nothing....this is pissing me off because it seems the mechanism itself is busted and will take cutting the striker latch off....any other ideas?

Another update.....after much cussing, hip checking, reefing on the handle and pulling up on the lock mechanism, it unlocked...the mechanism works with the door open, but it's too weak when the door is shut to unlock
