Picked up our first TJ. Its a 1998 4.0 Sport. My wife has been wanting a Jeep since the dawn of time, and we pulled the trigger on a "project" jeep that needs some love. Removed the armor from the outside to reveal some fairly substantial damage. I am no stranger to bodywork, or fabrication, or frame-off restorations, but to me it seems a tub swap would be the path of least resistance. That being said, I have a lead on a good 06 Tub with no damage.
Trying to determine how many unforseen extras could come up when going from a 98 tub to a 06 tub. From what I have gathered online, it looks like the heaterbox is one thing that is different, although cutting a hole seems to be the simple answer to that, but haven't found any writeups on it specifically, so it must be just that simple. Outside of that, are there issues that others have run into? What about if the "new" 06 tub is a manual, any issues with mine being automatic, or is that just straight forward as well?
I thought I might have also seen something about rear seats mounting differently, but that seemed to be more speculation and I couldn't find anything concrete on if that was truly different.
The 1998 I have is complete, so I have all the bits and bobbles required to move over to the 06 tub.
Hoping to pick that tub up today if possible, but I want to have all my ducks in a row before I drop any money on parts that I might potentially not need.
