Hi guys, found this when attempting a fluid change..pretty tricky to get it all out. Tried warming case to thin it out, drained for hours but still there. Anyone have any brilliant ideas for flushing or do I have to split the case? If so what's involved in that please?

Holy carp!! Time consuming, but...
Get as much out as you can - drain, spoon, spatula, turkey baster, whatever. I wouldn't hose it out, but if you could pressurize an oil product (not wd-40) to rinse some out that would help. Fill it as much as you can with fresh oil. Get it up on jack stands and run it up to temp. Drain and repeat until it's clean. Even then, I'd change it again in another 500 miles.
My 2 cents

I’d just split the case, pull out what you can with a spoon or similar and then use brake cleaner to try and wash the rest out. Then probably fill back up with fluid, run for a bit, drain and refill again.

Once you have removed as much of the RED CUSTARD as you can; replace the drain and filler plugs, fill the transfercase thru the vent line with a chemical cleaner (brake clean or similar) to remove the remaining custard residue from the insides. You may need to perform these steps a couple times to ensure you have cleaned the insides thoroughly.
OR as others have posted; remove and separated the transfer case halves.

I agree with 5TTTj and Mac; better check for a missing vent line.

I've got to be missing something because the first thing I'd grab for that mess is several cans of WD. It is a great solvent that cleans better than a lot of brake cleaners because it doesn't evaporate instantly. What am I missing?

Id flush it out with diesel several times to start. Laquer thinner might damage the seals. Next Id check the diffs and trans, looks like somebody took it swimming.

Honestly, if that came out of my T-case, I'd have to split it and get a look inside...and if I was splitting it, might as well do a rebuild. It's pretty cheap. Hell, you can find a good T-case on marketplace or Craigslist for a couple hundred.
At the very least, I'd pull it and fill it with kerosene and shake it around and empty it a few times until I was sure it's clean.

Thanks Guys - its my daily so bit reluctant to split the case immediately as have limited time.. however I've just checked the manual and it doesnt seem too involved... (appreciate a numpties guide if anyone has one...)
Car has definitely not been swimming - tranny and diffs all fine and unaffected - changed all fluids anyway. Its a Japanese import so probably spent most of its time on a mall somewhere chatting up female wranglers! - my guess is severe condensation over a long period of time - or the missing vent tube (where is that supposed to locate?) appreciate your guidance - not new to 4x4 but new to Tj's.....
