Poor fitting windshield gasket

As per the thread title - the outer gasket has a poor fit. It is raising out from the windshield frame. Mainly in the corners. I am wondering if a previous owner used a cheap gasket or installed incorrectly?

My understanding after doing some quick reading:
1) There is an inner gasket that basically fits over the frame lip.
2) The windshield is laid on top, held on by urethane sealant.
3) The outer gasket is more for show.

Has anyone encountered this issue where the outer gasket (and from what I can see maybe also the windshield), is fitting poorly or raising out from the frame?

That is an aftermarket reveal molding, put on by whoever replaced the windshield several years go. I say several years ago due to the multiple "air bubbles" around the corner in the first picture. FWIW, Those "air bubbles" aren't really anything to worry about.

The reveal on your Jeep pretty much just covers a wider area than the factory original to hide any paint or other damage caused by removing the last one. It's now pulling out around the corners for two possible reasons, first, it may not have been the best quality reveal molding that was available, or it could have just been stretched too hard around the windshield to begin with. Probably a little of both reasons combined.

If you can't stand seeing it like that, you have two choices here, call a local windshield shop, or if the windshield isn't leaking, you can put in some time to get this taken care of. It's probably a whole Saturday afternoon but not extremely hard. It won't be exactly easy either and somewhat depends on how good or bad of a job they did installing that one.

I can give you some directions on doing it yourself if you end up wanting to go that route

In the second picture, it looks like the windshield is about even in height to the frame on that corner which is about right. It should never stick out at all and not be more than about 1/16" inch deeper than the frame. If it's similar all the way around, they at least got that right.

OP - FWIW just the bottom driver's side corner of my windshield looks like your second picture. The gasket/seal is flush around the entire windshield except for that spot where it is raised up, same as yours.

As far as I can tell, it's not letting any water in. It's in good shape overall but I was certainly concerned about that corner for a while. I have yet to discover any leaks or rusting issues in/around that area though.

Can't find the picture right now but somewhere on this computer I have the photo from the add for my jeep when I bought it used. Didn't notice it at the time but all 4 corners of the windshield are taped down trying to get the sun to reform the very same thing your dealing with. The tape trick didn't work. That was in 2011. Now its 2019 and in the past 8 years I have occasionally pushed the corners down and they come right back up. In short, I have seen zero evidence of problems except for irking my OCD from time to time.

Mine does the same thing. No issues. I just push it down every morning because it bugs me

They shrink with age thanks to the exposure to the sun. Replacement is the eventual cure.

We don't have that problem where I live thanks to the a-holes that sand our highways with 1/2"-minus...
