Power steering cooler

My theory is that your box and possibly pump are fucked. The box is shot and murdering pumps for fun.

I have an offer for you. I have a known good OEM box and pump sitting in my garage, if you promise to swap them both in and use new lines before you lose steering and have an accident, I'll give them to you if you come pick them up. I'm pretty sure your 03 is the MB box, same as my LJ.

You’re making me laugh. Out here we wheel in 110 temperatures with no steering pump issues. 80s are nice cool fall-spring temperatures for us.

Yeah, I’m definitely not buying remanned PS Parts again, just on a streak of bad luck power steering wise. I blew a pump on the highway a year ago and had to get a tow. Put a new one in at the orielly parking lot the night before I moved into my freshman dorm. I love my jeep, and fully expected a project, so I can’t really complain!

If you grab the parts, don’t make the mistake of getting further distracted by doing the install if you should be focusing on finals. The steering will be there when you are done with important academic obligations.

Any type of fluid cooler will work.....

This is a little dangerous, there are plenty of coolers that are restrictive enough to raise the pressure enough on the low pressure side to make more heat than they get rid of, cause cavitation, and other BS no one wants, often times they will blow the crimped ends off of the cooler when things get spicy. Put a real pump in the equation these things get worse, more pressure on the HP side equates to more pressure on the LP side. The lower the pressure drop in a cooler for a power steering system the better.

Then how would you go about picking the proper fluid cooler? I'm not sure that I've seen data listed with most universal fluid coolers showing this information or I didn't know where to look?

Been a while, but I remember heat capacity being higher for humid air, so theoretically it would slightly improve cooler operation compared to a dry climate at the same temperature.

Obviously a different Jeep but I used a Flex-A-Lite cooler in my 3B after smelling of hot hydraulic fluid when in the rocks. 100% effective.

I also have a regular hydraulic filter plumbed into that system.

I'm likely going to use the same cooler on the TJ but that remains a ways down on the punch list.

I don't know how much cooler the Queen Creek area is but I just helped a gent over there who wheeled his rig a few weeks ago and severely overheated his steering system. He just finished up installing a PSC dual pass cooler on my V bar bracket to see if that will help.
