Pricing help on 2006 LJ

Ok, 2 yrs ago, I purchased a 2006 LJ (22k miles) for $17,500. I think blue book had it around $18k. We are thinking of getting a second jeep. I found another 2006 LJ, 64k miles, they are asking $17,800. I have a friend who sells cars. He looked up the carfax for the jeep. The suggested retail came back around $13K. I looked bluebook, and around same thing.

I know LJs are usually higher priced. So why are they showing so low right now? Is the dealer over pricing or is carfax and even bluebook under valuing the LJ model?

Clean LJs are going for sometimes up to 30k (for Rubicon models). I see standard non-Rubicon model LJs go for 16-20k all day long if they are very clean with low miles.

The LJ is more rare than the TJ, and it’s becoming especially highly sought after. So while the dealers are pricing them over Blue Book, they are doing it because they will have no trouble selling it for over Blue Book, especially if it’s rust free and clean.

Get one while you can and hold onto it. I don’t see them going down in price anytime.

Ok, that's what I thought. It's rating mine like $14k I think. My 2006 LJ has 36k miles and is rust free. (I got extremely lucky). I just wonder, since blue book supposedly looks at what the models in my area are selling for, would rate them so low. I figured $17k wasn't that far off. From the pics, it looks clean, but will have to check underneath, and make sure it's not just a fresh coat of black paint under there.

Check it out throughly. If it's mostly rust free, it's worth the asking price. I'm shocked at how much I see these LJs going for, but it's not joke, they really are fetching very high dollar value these days. With all the newer model Jeeps coming out, I expect they'll only continue to go up in value too. I'm not saying it's going to be a $500,000 car someday, but I do think it's a vehicle that will likely never lose too much (if any) value, as long as you take care of it and keep it clean.

The problem with kbb and other value determining sites, is the fact that alot of ppl paying cash, make the deal like they paid less than they did to lower the tax amount paid to dmv. These companies based the "value" off of reported sales, which is really skewed on older vehicles.

Wow, I never thought of that. And that makes alot of sense for older models.

Price in NE Ohio especially Akron/Canton are hard to deal with. LJ on that zone are highly desire and with GenRight presence on Canton with all of this nice things for them, surprise me that this one still up for sale.

Can't advice you much on pricing, trust me I'm not the best price negotiator. I spot two LJ the same day one for 25,000 on Ravina and the other for $8,000 on Berea. I do like it on Red so I pick the $8,000 one and deal with the price with cash on hand Saturday afternoon when the previous owner was ready to go on a casino trip. Now if the 25,000 was Red I do probably was on your same spot.

For me price is little high but is a nice Jeep on good conditions for what I can saw on the pictures. I look it this way, is an inversion on a cool model that not every one has. Kind of classic, and if you looking to keep it for long time or forever that make the price not so bad.

Check if this LJ expend it's life on Ohio first, look under neat and if look like an NE Ohio vehicule ask them to separate the transfer skid and look the frame, Chances are that they wasn't up to, but you can look and hit the frame if you feel is need it.

Thx. Hopefully going to go look at it, with the wife. We'd have 2 LJ, and I told her, of we get this, we're in it for 6yrs or more. Yhis isn't a "transition" vehicle. She is a cavalier right now, and I don't feel safe with her driving it. If she ran into someone like me, in my jeep...

I like how it doesn't look modified, so most likely no offloading. Just gotta see if they took precautions about rust. That's why I'm happy with my $17.5k LJ. It had 22k miles and NO rust, so it's worth it to me.
