Problem with LED turn signals and headlights

Good Morning All.

Has anybody run into a problem with the type socket used in for front turn signal for a 2004 TJ? CK vs. Standard Socket?

Attempting to swap front turn signals and side marker lights for LEDs. Work OK till I turn the headlights on, then they do not flash.

(Note: I recently upgraded the Tail/Brake/Turns to LEDs and already swapped out the flasher for that set...they work fine.)

The side marker lights use a floating ground, and therefore LED lights in the the side markers (the ones on the front fender flares) will cause everything to act screwy. I'm not sure how to fix it, but there is a thread by @cr0sh where he addressed the issue and found I fix I believe.

Either way, put regular bulbs back in those side markers would be my advice (that's what I did). You can replace all the other lights with LEDs though (including the taillights as long as you get an LED flasher relay).

So I ran into this issue when I installed my flat fenders and had to install the small LEDs on my Jeep. I kept blowing fuses trying to get it to work. Eventually what I did was I grounded the negative of the LED to a bolt on the body of the Jeep and then connected the positive like you would normally. Been running that for about 6 months now without any issues. If you are just replacing the bulbs then this might not be of any help.

I replaced all turn signals with LEDs. The front fender bulbs I used the CK bulbs from Super Bright LEDs. Supposedly their CK bulbs will work in either CK or non-CK sockets.

For the fender flare bulbs I used the recommended bulb but converted the plug to a 3 wire setup. The 2 stock wires are cut. The wire for the running lights gets a diode letting current flow forward and a 330 ohm resistor in series. The turn signal wire gets a diode only. The 2 ends (after diode and resistor) are connected to one wire on the socket. The other wire is grounded.

This makes the side markers operate at half brightness on running lights but full brightness on turn/hazard. The lights are synchronized and no longer alternate.

Note the resistor is to dim the bulb and is not a load resistor. No load resistors are needed anywhere.

You may need to play around and find the best resistance to use to effectively dim the bulb to the brightness of your choice.

It will likely be between 100 ohms and 1000 ohms depending upon how powerful of an LED you install.

I just put AEG Flat fenders on.. having issues.. only a black and red wire coming from tiny blinker light... so just hook the black one to the frame or other ground?
