Anyone seen this before? I changed the pistons and changed the valve seals at the same time. Valves are free and there was no lifter tick. 99 4.0, unknown mileage.

Looks like it wasn't built using seamless tubing . If its just one pushrod , swap it out for with a pushrod measuring the same length . Also look at the rocker arm for that pushrod for scoring due to lack of oil , it may be possible for oil to spray out the side of the seam .

I thought the same about it being a cracked seam. The stain looks more like rust than oil. All the rockers were cleaned in the solvent tank and look ok.

None of the pushrods in my 04 looked like that when I pulled them to install the Edelbrock head. All normal seemless ones

I'd replace it for sure.

The head had never been off but I dont know the service history of the engine. I replaced all pushrods and head bolts with melling. I've never seen or heard of anything like it.

I'm not sure if it's acceptable to do so or not, but I have a few extra used pushrods of you want them.

Thanks for the offer! Autozone of all places had a set of mellings for $5 each. I replaced them all to be done with it.
