I'm planing on upgrading my steering from my current setup to the PSC hydro assist setup. Phase 1 is to get the upgraded pump and box. Phase 2 with be to get the bolt on kit from BMB.

I plan on getting the following parts for the first phase:

Box: https://www.pscmotorsports.com/vehi...p-temp/95-02-jeep-yj-xj-tj-zj/psc-sg061r.html

Pump/reservoir:

I currently have the currie currectlync, so I should be good there.

The main questions are do I need to get upgraded lines for between the pump and box. Also do I want to upgrade to the -6AN on the pump, or add a cooler?

The better question is, do you need another cooler besides the one provided within the BMB kit?

The cooler in the BMB kit is all you need. And I would add the cooler right away not when you do the assist. I did go with the larger return line than what came with the psc kit

What are you calling upgraded lines? -6AN is 3/8". The factory pressure hose is 3/8" so there is on downside to running a 97-02 stock pressure line from the pump to the box. A -8 return set up accounts for the longer fluid path through the cooler back to the reservoir and reduces the likelihood of wall friction with the use of a -6 return loop.

Ok, I clearly don't know what I'm talking about.

So my dumb question is -6AN "upgrade" needed to work with the BMB kit?

Here is my list of things to get assuming yes on -6AN. Please let me know what I'm missing or need to change:

Box: https://www.pscmotorsports.com/vehi...p-temp/95-02-jeep-yj-xj-tj-zj/psc-sg061r.html

Pump (with -6AN) + reservoir: https://www.pscmotorsports.com/vehi...p-temp/95-02-jeep-yj-xj-tj-zj/psc-pk1852.html

Ram + Cooler: https://www.shop.blackmagicbrakes.c...rie-Steering-STEERING-COOLER-BRACKETS-RAM.htm

Your best bet is going to be to call PSC to order the parts from them. You need a shorter reservoir in order to mount it on the inner fender to shorten the supply hose. You want -8 return not -6. Tell them you want the steering box with a .210 torsion bar.

I have no issues running the 97-02 pressure line.

I followed @mrblaine recommendation when I installed the PSC box and pump. It was spot on and I've had zero issues. In a nutshell, here's the recipe for success:

  • -12AN feed line to the pump
  • -8AN return line
  • -8AN 16" Single Pass heat sink cooler!
Keep the lines as short and direct as possible, and hand prime the pump. You won't be disappointed!

There are only two lines that are -6AN and they are the high pressure hoses from the assist ports on the steering gear to the ports on the cylinder. They are included in the kit, both the hose and the field serviceable fittings that fit the hose.

You should call in and chat with Kelvin. You want the standard pump control valve that accepts the stock 97-02 pressure line. The upgraded DIY kit is very hard to do if you don't have a body lift since the metric o-ring fitting moves the pressure fitting up to high to fit under the grill. The stock line fits under the grill with no body lift.
The reservoir is fine but if you have high lines or plan to mount it on the fender (and you should), you will need the shorter reservoir.
