My original platform has worked great but I still wanted something for when the back seat is removed and I am carrying tools and things back there. The addition of a sub woofer under the back seat also prompted this as the sub was unprotected with the seat removed. Instead of constructing a whole new one, I made another section that sits in front of the original one, is supported on it's own and latches onto the original one which is in turn fastened to the floor with turnbuckles. I made a cutout for the sub woofer and I also drilled out two holes that sit perfectly over the seat brackets and keep it centered and also offer more support.
The horizontal part is attached with a dado joint, glue and staples then underneath there are square supports that tie them together at the 90 degree joint. It sticks up about 10", low enough to reach over from the front seat but high enough to stop crap from sliding forward into the floor footwells and console.

Next, after carpet I ordered a set of VW Car Go Blocks which attach to the carpet with Velcro and keep stuff from sliding around. My TDI came with these and they really work great. VW charges a lot for these but I found a set on ebay for $20. You could also make something with wood/plastic/Velcro but for $20 I wasn't going to bother with that.
Sorry to revive a seemingly dead thread, but do you have the dimensions and possibly drawings for these? Also, how are they holding up?
It's holding up great, I leave it in all the time now. The only issue I had were the front turnbuckles would gradually loosen and it would rattle. I solved that by threading some solid #14 copper wire thru the turnbuckles to prevent them from turning. As Andy pointed out it is important to secure it down, mine has 6 turnbuckles.
I didn't take any measurements but I could. you'll have to be patient though as I got the flu or something real bad yesterday and I'm in pretty bad shape. I most likely made cardboard templates to ge my sizing correct but it does fit like a glove.
