Went for a brutal day hike last week climbed from 3600 feet to 6200 feet between 2 volcanoes. For all that have watched Lord of the rings one of the volcanoes is “Mount Doom” in the land or Mordor from the movie. (or its proper name Mount Ngauruhoe) it last erupted in 1977 although the one next door last erupted in 2012.

Perfect day ,sunny and warm and not a cloud in the sky…but maybe too perfect as there was no shade the whole trip. The outside temp was around 75-80 degrees but the ground (being a volcano )also gives off some heat too. I went with my 2 daughters and my dad (77 years old) he is ex-navy and said it’s one of the hardest things he’s ever done. It took us 9 hours. The views from the top were breath-taking though...The area is like a moon scape the scale is enormous.
Took me a while to sort through the many pics I took.

that is one of the handiest radios you can carry around. if you know the frequencies, you can program that little thing to talk to almost anyone. (just don't drop it from any height past waist high lol) used one as a test radio while i worked at a 2 way communications company.
Considering that I paid $19.99/shipped, it wasn't a bad deal.

How about a pool in the middle of the plains?

This was part of an old army camp in Wyoming that housed soldiers coming home from WWI. It was later converted to a POW camp in WWII. These photos were taken probably 15 years ago.
