Ratcheting sound from front end at parking lot speeds

More/better suggestions what the problem is will be gratefully accepted. That front locker light definitely wouldn't be working if the locker had been replaced by a lunchbox locker though I guess with ingenuity anything is possible.

True, pull the sensor, or pull the cover are the only next steps. Or just drive it till it breaks, and takes some other stuff out in the process. It'll become obvious then.

I am having similar issues. However, prior to changing the differential fluid, it did not make any noise. Fluid was clean, not metal on the magnet and fluid level is at correct level. Im stumped.

Exactly what lubricant did you fill it with?

Lucas Oil SAE 80w-90 heavy duty high performance trans and diff lube

Do you know if your front axle has a locker installed?

Yes it’s a dana44 front axle on a rubicon. I checked the sensor placement and it is on the correct side. It also locks and the light comes on as it should. I started a post on it with a video of the sound.
