Rear mounted tow hook?

@Jerry Bransford i ordered two curt tow hooks but the holes on the rear frame to attach them to are occupied by the tow hitch assembly. What would you suggest?

Just drill a second hole through just that side of the frame and you're ready to install a tow hook.

I understand what you’re saying and I saw that pic you are referring to but that hole has the tow hitch bolted in it so I can’t use that hole (see pic). I’d rather not remove the tow hitch as I use it to attach a bike rack/cargo rack and I prefer sturdy tow recovery points rather than using the hitch shackle attachment as a recovery point. Should I drill two new holes?

No need. Get a longer bolt for the lower hole and mount the hook on top of the tow hitch, use a washer or other shim under the top hole, and attach as Jerry has shown.

Definitely WAY WAY WAY overpriced, you just need a standard tow hook mounted to the frame like this. Just one hole through the outside of the frame is needed, the second hole is already there. Fish the required washers & nuts up inside the frame through the factory slot cut into the bottom of the frame at that location, use Grade 8 hardware to mount it.

This might be a dumb question but how did you fix the nut and turn the bolt? I can't get my wrench through the slot in the bottom to hold the nut down....

I don't know what kind of a wrench you're using but a combination box/open-end wrench easily fits up inside there to hold the nut with room to spare.

I used 1/2x20 fasteners too. Once you get the nut started just use the open side of the wrench which fits up into my frame's slot.
 
I apologize for a second threadsurrection on this forum in two days. It was suggested that I seek help in this thread.

I have read this thread, but I am still not certain what to do. And after looking at my initial theory of what to do, now I think that theory is incorrect and I wish to proceed with due caution.

1998 Jeep Sahara, 4.0, manual, with what I theorize is an aftermarket rear towing hitch attachment.

Where I am at:

I purchased some recovery hooks, Rugged Ridge 11236.02 and they differ from what I see in the above pics. Three holes instead of two. So that may be my first error. I numbered the holes in the pic below.

Secondly my towing hitch attachment is different than the other examples and appears to use a higher and more rearward bolt hole with a bolt the goes through both sides of the frame.

What to do?

Theory A:
Use the FRONT bolt hole for the tow attachment and go through hole ONE on my hook. Use the bolt that came with the Rugged Ridge hook and bolt it inside the frame fiddling the nut in as previously described. Discard the bolt from the tow hitch.

Drill a new hole at approximately the location of hole THREE in my hook. Go through the tow attachment plate and one side of the frame. Fish nut from Rugged Ridge kit inside and bolt using the RR bolt.

Ta Da!

Theory B:

Use the FRONT bolt hole ...(same as Theory A)

Drill new hole using hole TWO in my hook. Allowing a steeper angle and a longer throw lower down for rope clearance.

Ta Da! (Until the hook breaks because hole 3 is unsupported? Ta Doh.)

Only two bolts are needed, use the two closest to each other that place your hook in the optimal position. I'd expect 1 and 2 to be the appropriate holes. One hole in the frame is already there but it's hidden under that bracket which would need to be temporarily removed to uncover the hole in the frame hidden below that bracket.
