Hi Guys,

I just bought new axles and an OME 2" lift. I just removed the back axle and my spring tower is hanging on by a thread. The frame itself is ok, but I would like to replace the spring towers (is that what they are called?). I did some research but wanted to get your advice.

Here is a pic:

I was thinking it would be a great opportunity to chip the old frame mount off and reposition them so the spring sit straight up and down. I found someone that did it w/ the same make and model as mine:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/rear-spring-tower-rusted-away-1997-wrangler-1192291/

and they pointed to this particular product:

http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Coil-spring-Frame-mounts-with-retainers_p_1478.html

My question to put out to everyone is to ask if anyone else has done this and what mount did they use? Also if you ran into any problems etc.

Thank you!

Bumping this thread.
I recently bought a 1997 TJ Sahara and today I noticed that the pssenger side Spring cup/perch is rotted. Does anyone knows what part do I need to buy so I can have somebody weld it for me. Thank you guys.

That's a tough one. I've looked and looked, and can not find a replacement spring perch. The spring perch is part of the axle housing, so you can't buy it separately from the dealer without ordering an entirely new axle housing.

Maybe one of the more knowledgable guys on the forum such as @Stinger (he does a lot of fabbing), @Jerry Bransford or @mrblaine can help with this one. A Google search didn't yield anything conclusive.

Knowheretojeep.com is a possible. For something as simple as this try a junk yard. They can always slice one off for you.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I ordered replacement perches from ballistic. I was a little skeptical about the reviews they got but I ordered Sunday and they shipped Monday. I took the old perch out yesterday. Its was worst than I thought. Here are some pics... all I used was my dremel to remove the old welds.

The person who owned it before me installed spacers on OEM coils to lift it. I am getting rid of those. I went ahead and order the roughcountry 4 inch lift yesterday. What are your opinions on it? I read good reviews about i and for the mney and so I can het my jeep back on the road it doesnt seem bad at all. Thank you.

Well, at least you're taking care of it! Sand the crap out of that rust (sounds like you did)!

I'm sorry, I'll be honest and say that Rough Country is complete garbage. The shocks they sell are literally worthless (not even kidding), they are horrible. The springs will get you by, but the control arms are also garbage with shitty bushings. You get what you pay for, you really do.

I'm not saying it won't work (it will definitely work), I'm just saying that it's not going to ride anywhere near as good as an OME lift, Currie, Metalcloak, etc. There's a reason why it's so much cheaper. Most of the guys who have Rough Country lifts seem to complain the most about the poor quality of the shocks.

However, if you're on a budget I completely understand it.

Raining (or another word that starts with a P) on a parade.:(

I've always wondered why someone will ask for opinions on something after they have already purchased it. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I'm in agreement with Chris... Rough Country is right up there with Skyjacker as one of the two brands of suspension lift that would never make my short list of suspension lifts to install. Especially if I wanted my Jeep to ride any better than the proverbial buckboard wagon that Rough Country suspension lifts are known to ride like.

To be honest for the the time being, I will probably not feel any difference since this is my first jeep and nothing can be worst than the way it fell to drive it before. If it gets me by for a couple of months, I will be happy with it as long as I am able to drive safe. I dont think the previous setup was safe at all.

Well, you live an learn. I started out with a cheaper kit, and soon found myself upgrading to something more expensive. I wish I could go back and do it again, because I would have just done it right from the start. Oh well, live and learn!

Research is the key. I don't buy anything anymore without spending time looking stuff up. Hell I've NEVER made a mistake buying something.;)
