Reinforcing interior door panel to prevent cracks

I’ve got a set of interior door panels on the way to replace my existing ones that have ”the crack” and I‘m planning to reinforce inside the entire top lip to prevent the crack from happening in the future. What would be the best way to go about that? I considered a layer or two of duct tape and also some sort of mesh adhesive backing. Would love some input!

They typically crack in the same spot. When you see the reinforcing rib on the back of the panel, you'll understand why. I'd get some of the two part plastic glue and fiberglass drywall tape, do a layer or two of that and hope for the best.

Very funny that you’re the one who responded — I just finished reading through your red LJ build thread. Holy cow, man — you are TALENTED!

Thanks for the suggestion — I think I’ll do that. Do you think it’s necessary to do the entire top panel or should I just do a generous area near where that reinforcing rib is?

I did the same thing to a switch panel I bought that was 3d printed...started coming apart and I used fiberglass drywall tape/mesh and JB weld. Rough up the plastic with a file or something for a better bond.

I did my doors 6 years ago and they still look great.

I tried some aluminum gutter guard mesh with JB weld plastic bonder on some cracks and it did ok. But, some self adhesive drywall mesh that @zebra12 suggested one time with some JB weld plastic bonder was far more easier to use. Much more easier to shape how you needed.

A little over 3 years since the repairs and no issues.
