You do need some cam bearings, and 24lbs injectors, so $1900 is realistic. Balancing the rotating assembly is a good idea. And either way you should have the block decked so the pistons are flush and use a 0.044 MLS head gasket. This reduces the risk of detonation in 4.0 or 4.6L builds

This 4.6L with 24lbs injectors formula will run on the stock pcm with no tuning, but you may benefit a few hp from some fine adjustment in timing and the open loop fuel base map.

So the block is cracked. Someone local is selling a used Jasper with 43K miles on it out of a 2004 that was rear ended. From the research I’ve done, a 4.0 out of a 2004 should fit my 2000. Does anyone know anything I should look out for? Mine is the early 2000 with the federal emissions so no pre-cats, but I don’t think that should matter. Someone said the exhaust manifold bolt holes may be different. Does anyone know if this engine will fit? Thanks!

Dang dude. Did they say where the crack was?

Yeah it will fit. Bolt ons may be different but it should all be a match. Part of the beautiful simplicity of these motors. Could look at the head and see if it is a TUPY since it is probably not a 2004 motor. Might not be an issue, or might want to swap it out to avoid a potential headache.

I'd be looking at that Jasper motor carefully. Compression numbers. Cylinder walls. Valves... endoscope will help.

It's ridiculously easy to rebuild a 4.0 before you install the engine. Bearings, oil pump, timing chain...quick hone of the cylinders.

Fix it before you chuck it in.

Piston skirts are the kiss of death on these I-6 's . Be sure to check carefully while doing the freshen up .
