Rock-chipped grill

My 97 TJ has 21 yrs of rocks n such hitting the grill and headlight areas, making chips in the paint that has exposed metal.
Not a paint guy here.
Is the correct.solution to remove the grill, sand all paint down to metal and begin the.prime and paint? Or is there a better way to go about this?

Rocks have pock-marked the grill, easier to see if you zoom in

1) Use touch-up paint to fill in the chips.
2) Remove your grille and have it repainted at an auto body / paint shop (unless you know how to paint, in which case I needn't say more).

You could also get a chrome grill insert that was offered as an option. But you've got to like the look.

Any auto parts store usually has matching touch-up paint. I'd hate to think what a dealer would charge, but I could be all wet...

You could also take off the grille and have it Line-X'd. I would imagine a solid color like white would be easier to match. Say goodbye to future rock chips. It appears there's 3 Line-X dealers within 20 miles of your location.

I like the stock look, and I have.a.compressor so I just may try to paint when the hot weather ends

Yup I have seen those, but the jury is still out for me anyway. I've seen black grills look good on jeeps.
I think I'll keep this grill stock, heck I need to learn to paint anyway

Yes, the usually have it in stock, especially for a common color like white.

Amazon is another easy option for touch up paint, just punch in your paint code, that's where I found mine.

It’s hard to see from the pic, (there are obvious rock chips,) but it looks like you also have some other “blemishes” from road grime, brake dust, etc. Try a clay bar before you make a final decision, it could take a lot of those specs away that aren’t through the paint.

I bought the paint pen at a dealer and had great luck with it. They checked my paint code, got the right shade of white, and I filled in all the chips. Nothing fancy, and if I remember right, less than 25 bucks.

there's always Monstaliner...it's available in 39 different colors, so you can go with white or a nice accent color
