Roof rack recommendations

1) Don't. Get a trailer or take the top off and use the roll bar.
2) If you must get a roof rack get an XJ.

According the XJ owners manual the roof rack is rated for 150 lbs. so he'd be right on the mark.

thanks, just looked. Gobi is pri$$ey. Suppose it's a get what you pay for situation with that compared to Smitty SRC? Anything in particular you can share to help educate me on price difference?

My TJ came with what I believe was a Smitty SRC when I bought it. I took it off this summer because I had no use for it and it is a PITA with the soft top. It was honestly perfectly solid and I don't think it contributed too terribly to road noise (granted I have no carpet and MTs so road noise is pretty high regardless). Its totally serviceable and doesn't require require any drilling as it attaches to the rear bumper and door hinges.

I just bought one, bars hold 90KG 192Lbs and you can take it off easy. USA made and I am an aussie lol

Drudging up an old one here, but could you take some photos of how it attaches to the roll bar on the inside of the top. Any problems with water egress or squeaks?


I’m looking at doing something similar, howling to have it hold 200-300 without an exo-skeleton style.
