Rubicon Locker Replacement

To add onto this, another question. I've never fully dug into a diff, just mildly cleaned it and changed the oil when I got the axles. I have watched a few videos and read a few threads on replacing gears, so I know the general process there but not when it's just the carrier. Intuition tells me it's the same process with measuring gear pattern, shims, backlash, etc, but the small amount I have read about a carrier only swap makes it seem much simpler than that. Mostly just checking backlash on the ring gear. Maybe I'm misreading some of the posts, so let me know what all to expect.

Yes, measure the backlash before the old carrier comes out. Then set the arb to the same backlash assuming all your bearings were good. Carrier bearing preload is the only other concern when swapping carriers

Going to do a ton more research soon, especially as I wait for parts, so excuse the probably obvious-to-answer question (which I really should know the answer to because I just finished a class primarily over this stuff). Does the backlash have to be exactly the same, or is there like a +/- .001 range. Gut feeling says exactly the same, especially from the bits I remember reading about installing already broken in gears.

Here we go!

Haven't even been able to give a it a proper once over yet and already noticed more carnage. Was under the jeep today to strap it down again and noticed my axle side track bar bolt was just gone, causing the axle to shift over and rub the gas tank while I was on trails. I then noticed half a control arm bushing hanging out of the the housing, then another, then another, until I came to the realization that all if not most of my control arm bushings were nothing more than decoration at this point. Tomorrow is going to be a lot of looking, and trying not to think about my bank account...

I'm no genius,but if i could get +/- .001 i would be happy
