Savvy Mid Arm Questions

What is your ideal value and why?
(Particularly the rear ) I'd say 90%. The Jeeps West brackets I had on my Dana 44 definitely raised the Antisquat (which was the main reason I wanted them) I love how it planted the tires when launching my jeep! But that is the reason why I'm wanting to be around the 90% value
Where is the COG on the vehicle in question, exactly?
Good question And I need help in this too!
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to measure my center of gravity but at the very center of my Tcase flange I'm reading 20⅚ and 26½ at the center of the crank bolt (I was taking both numbers and averaging them out to get my "COG") where do you measure the COG ?
As far as the front goes I'd need to be schooled on ideal numbers

After my 9" swap necessity it snowballed into me wanting to do a triangulated 4 link,Ordered some brackets from Iron man fab which allow me to adjust the upper links. But after waiting for 2 months I'm thinking of either bugging Gerald to buy some brackets or possibly leaping into a double triangulated setup as a "fun project"...

Edit- @rasband what's so funny?

You could probably do wicked parking lot donuts.

A few things: 1. Reviving such an old thread with this specific question 2. You're focused on a number 3. This is the kind of thing that has gone in rounds and rounds on the forum in nearly every technical thread about a midarm/longarm/short-arm/mid-short setup.

You sir and I most likely have completely different driving styles.

Lots more than that lol,Launching at the strip,Also being next to my buddies s14 when drifting around town when it's rainy🤙🏼It's fun 😁And not lifting a rear tire when turning around a tight corner which the factory Geometry on <3" lift did and wasn't really planted.

Funny thing is, of all my cars past and present - the jeep is the best driver and I know the only remaining things I need to make it even better (hydro assist from Blaine).

I am not opposed to you asking questions or suggesting you do anything different, it's just a fun observation :). This forum is all about understanding, sharing, learning.

Same here,My Lj is the best driver compared to my 21' Diesel gladiator,The Lj has more soul and the gladiator....it's comfy, quiet, fuel efficient (and quick) But kinda boring 🫤

Yes sir, Im asking since I need to be educated some on things I'm not 110% competent on.....I know plenty to get myself into trouble but not enough to get me out when it comes to this and other things😆

This is stuff better addressed with shocks more than it is with control arms.

You can stop right about there.

I did, going with a different axle&suspension setup.

That'll get taken care of with some custom tuned coilovers!
I figured, instead of dealing with cheap shocks paired with a "better sway bar" would help,But after talking with you and other people confirming about that topic (about custom tuned shocks) I started to look around and welp,It'll be worth it to just pull the trigger on tuned shocks. More money? Yes ! But it'll be worth it for what I do🤙🏼

All the above 😝
Edit- Jokes aside, 78' Ford hp44 upfront and a full float fabricated 9" for the rear

Seeing your Cleetus references means you must follow them. If you’re serious about the drag stip then wouldn’t you want positional adjustability at both ends of the control arms?

Good catch😁 And yes I've been watching Good Ole Cleet since I was a kid (21 now) Back when he was with 1320,particularly seeing him drive that 1000hp Williys jeep 😆

And no I'm not serious about drag racing this lol,But I will take it to the strip for shits&gigs.
I'm building this Jeep for it to continue to be the Daily I've always taken to work but will be used for crawling.....And built to accommodate me Ripping through backroads, drifting, doing donuts,Overall spirited driving activities 😁

I like to have fun🙂

Ok, got it. Then I'd be less concerned about the numbers and more concerned with the ride.

True but I don't wanna completely ignore antisquat numbers (not just that)
I think that if he was so enamored with the JW stuff, he should just copy that and leave the rest of us out of it.
I'm not completely enamored with it. Otherwise I wouldn't even have bothered to ask what the savvy stuff has. I woulda just copied the JW stuff.

The first problem is that no one knows their COG. The second problem is that no one knows the antisquat the numbers. The calculator everyone uses is only good for a static load on flat ground. That it not the context where you start to be interested in antisquat.

One thing that some pick up on after a few rodeos is to be suspicious of those who rely heavily on oddly specific numbers as an answer rather than a focus on guidelines and parameters to understand how and why things work or behave. The Jeep West crowd is dazzled by specific numbers rather than an interest in how and why things work.
