School me on LSD vs lockers

Being 'in' snow is different than being on a trail or street with just a thin coating of snow or ice on a hard surface that makes the underlying surface slick enough that the lunchbox locker doesn't have enough traction to help it to unlock through turns. Automatic lockers, lunchbox or full-carrier it doesn't matter, have trouble on snow or ice covered surfaces. I did some icy trails years ago and every guy with an automatic locker was sliding everywhere and mostly down toward the low-side on off-camber trails. They were having a hell of a time... which is why many call automatic lockers "low-side finders".
That's an important thing to understand. When I'm on a snow covered shelf road, the lockers aren't on until I need them. They will push the Jeep forward and to the downhill side which is usually the cliff edge. Using only the front locker gets to be really important.

Frankly, I don't care to be on snow covered trails with shelf roads to begin with.

Thats why im considering the no-slip up front because ill really only be seeing the snow in general about 2 times a year at best

I read all these posts and I agree with @never monday that it's just learning to drive with a lunchbox in the snow. Plus, if you turn off the rear locker as you turn then it will turn better. Truth is though, I rarely turn it off for a turn. I've adjusted and know what to expect.

TJ's are squirrely on snow and ice covered roads no matter what due to the SWB, and the LSD is not going to give you any advantage over a locker.

Off-road in the snow a TJ does well and especially in deep snow, it plows through pretty well (with lockers).

I don't see any advantage to an LSD over a locker.

If I were doing it all again and living in WA, I'd get selectable front and rear.

But given that I moved here from TX and already have a No-Slip, there's no need to change.

Plus, I saved the cost of the front e-locker and a small amount of labor for install, probably $1000.

I'm happy. Just got back from driving on snow and ice covered roads all over town and off-road today.

The only advantage I see in my TruTracs over selectable lockers is initial price. And maybe the ability to stand up to my driving like an asshole off (and on) road because less traction, but is that really a plus?

Where I disagree with people is where they say how useless they are. That's a big overstatement by people who play on lots of rocks. TruTracs do me real good on dirty/muddy trails here out east, are great in the snow, no noise, no air lines/power lines/cables to worry about, and will never wear out. The difference in performance (not on rocks) is yuge. If I could go back in time though and loan myself the cash, I would have selectable lockers now.

Price point to price point, the only real debate in my mind is between lunchbox lockers and TruTracs due to obvious on road driving characteristics. If you have the money though, selectable lockers all the way.

The overlap between LSD and lockers is small. Not having an LSD Anymore has not changed how I do anything on an easier trail.

Are you saying it has made it harder/easier on those trails, or you dont notice a difference at all?

I know for my driving, both have a benefit and a downside(trutrac vs lunchbox) but for a majority of my wheeling, I think id be better off with the said combo from above Elocker rear, powertrax no-slip up front due to mainly playing in the rocks and only seeing snow a few times a year

True trac in the rear, open up front. Front will have a selectable some day.
Thats another option im considering because it is rather cheap and works well, i do like the benefit of the truetrac for on/light offroad, but as I said above they both have ups and downs

Minimal difference. The few times the LSD would have pushed me through, I just use a locker.

I will say that if there was an option for something that wasn't as fragile as the Rubicon LSD/locker, I would absolutely want one. But since that doesn't exist, I'll take the locker.
