Seat belts

Anyone else have issues with your seat belts not retracting on their own? Because of it my passangers who are not used to my Jeep keep slamming the door on the seat belt buckle as it hangs out because it doesn't retract on its own. It doesn't bother me to move it out of the way, but im getting tired of passangers slamming the buckle on their side.

Is there a fix?

Maybe hit the retract mechanism with some silicone spray. If that does not work, replace it.

There's a thread on here somewhere about removing the mechanism in the rear floorboard and the catch that sometimes comes off the latch @Chris.

The seatbelt latching mechanism uses a simple steel ball and cup to lock the belt up. When the ball rolls out of the center, it latches the yellow mechanism via the darker yellow lever attached to the orange cup. It is probably just gunked up from dirt.

Thoroughly flush the mechanism out with WD40 after removing the cover. WD40 is a good solvent for such purposes. The WD40 is thin enough to evaporate within a short period of time leaving nothing behind to attract more dirt.

No guarantees but doing this has worked in the past.

I had luck in the past with other vehicles by just washing the seatbelts.. I pull them all the way out and get a bucket of soapy water,dawn works good to break up the body oils and dirt in the seatbelt. worked well in the past. There are some vids out there on this as well saying it works most of the time for a slow retracting seatbelt. worth a try, just be sure its completely dry before letting it retract.
actually, here is a vid I just found, this guy says it works 99% of the time but YMMV.
