Before we get NSFW... I'm talking about cracked windshields or anything else on your Jeep that got cracked. Plus how did it happen.

I was on my way to work this morning. I was on the freeway and something hit the windshield. Dammit! Scared the crap out of my son in the passenger seat. We got to have a conversation on the flat angle of the windshield + what safety glass is.

Curious how quickly this will spread. I'll leave it as is if it doesn't spread right away.

Out of 3 Jeeps, I think this is my 5th or 6th windshield.

My previous windshield had numerous cracks all over, I actually got pulled over for it. There were two in my line of sight, one along the middle, one in the passenger line of sight and IIRC, one more along the entire bottom length of the windshield. Not counting the 20+ other rock chips all over I suppose I had that ticket coming...

I had the windshield replaced for $180, then within a day I got another rock chip just like yours on the passenger side.

If you get it fixed/filled at a reputable shop, they'll usually replace the glass for free if it spreads later.

Nearly the center of my windshield. Got it from a camper driving into Moab for dinner. Happened right in front of trail maters shop in 2022. Rock hit in the center of the half circle. Sounded like a gunshot.

I’ll get a new one for nothing through my insurance sometime.

we rented a gladiator for a trip recently. it has a screen protector like you’d find on a cell phone. 7 layers. so you can peel it off as they get scratched. the owner said it was well worth it.

I live in a very rocky place, and I deal with chips and cracks all the time. My advice is to get that fixed ASAP, as in tomorrow, if possible. With a starburst that big, it can easily turn into a full-blown crack running across the entire windshield. All it takes is tiny amount of stress on the windshield. I’ve watched them turn into cracks from the car body twisting and from rapid temperature changes (using the defroster in winter.) The glass companies have a resin that they can inject into the cracks, stabilizing it and even reducing the appearance of the starburst. I just had one repaired on a windshield that was less than a month old this summer. It was $50 to repair it. The new windshield was about $400.

Safelite wanted $160 to do a repair. Messaged the guy that replaced my windshields in the past, he would replace it for $122. He recommended a guy that does repairs too, waiting to hear back. I did order a kit on Amazon too.

Is that parts & labor, or just labor? I'm assuming just labor. If it includes the replacement windshield, that's super cheap, and I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I did order a kit on Amazon too.

I've never tried that route. When I watched a pro do it, there was more to it than what the instructions with those kits tell you to do. They sometimes have to use a rotary bit to ensure penetration of the resin, and I think their resin uses a UV light to cure.

Also, I forgot to mention that you do need to keep that crack completely dry, so put clear packaging tape over it until you can get it repaired. Any water that gets in their can react with the resin and it'll appear cloudy (been there, done that.)

Found another guy (referred from the guy that does the replacements) that said he could repair it for $65. So figure I'll try the kit I bought on Amazon for $13 and if that doesn't work, I'll have it replaced.

I believe the $122 is parts and labor. I know it's pretty cheap. He's uses aftermarket parts (not OEM), but I've never had any issues with his work. He offers OEM glass, but over twice the price. He replaced my LJ windshield about 5+ years ago, no issues (this one is my DD Sahara TJ). I should check though, because I feel like the one he did 5+ years ago was around $150.

Noted on the packaging tape! That crack is right in front of my face, so don't want it cloudy.

One bit long crack right through the passengers eyeline. This one started about two inches long starting from the right windshield header, didn't move for months and then stretched the rest of the way in a couple of days.

One rock chip up high and two down low on the driver side and toward the middle.

Well I'd probably want to replace the windshield if it spread like that top pic. I had one similar that happened on a hot day. Started as a 2" crack and then just spread slowly all day until it went from top to bottom.

I had another one in my LJ that started with the previous owner. It was similar to the one I posted above. It didn't spread for about 2 years. Then one hot day it spread pretty badly.

Has anyone ever had the windshield collapse (broken glass)?

I'm going to try the Amazon repair kit when it arrives. Not planning to replace the windshield unless it gets really bad.

yeah I'm not gonna mess with repairing the chips on this one, I just need to get it replaced. I just don't really want to do it right before winter starts because that's chip season.

I have repaired chips using this video as a go by. Wouldn't know I did it if you didn't know where to look.

I use Best Price Glass in San Bernardino. Used them for years and over a dozen windshields and side windows. Service is outstanding and they do the work while you wait. Had the windshield replaced in my Frieghtliner. Dealer wanted $700 they did it for less than $300.

It's enough to say mine looks like @tworley's. My sons Jeeps look like that too. We've talked about fixing them many times, but here we are still running around with cracks everywhere.

I haven't had bad luck with Jeeps, although I think it's just pure dumb luck.

Humvees on the other hand...

Update after using a repair kit. Though if I had to do it again, I'd get that locktite kit in the video that @Apparition posted. I could tell the instructions with mine were written by a non-english speaker. "Insert medication into windshield wound..."
