The last thing I am paranoid about is my security key. Can I disconnect the security key electronics in front of the steering wheel and under the cover. If I remove it how do I jump the wires together so see everything works correctly including the security light on the dash does not come on anymore.

You will need to disconnect the SKIM module under the column and then send the PCM out and get the SKIM function turned off. Once that is done, do not plug the module back in and turn the key on, that will activate the function again and then it won't start since the keys aren't paired to PCM.

@5632 I can disable the skim for you on the pcm for you. The cost is 100 and it is back to you within a day.
I have done some looking into adding a skim system for my LJR. When I read that I need to get the dealer involved I think it may be too much trouble trying to get them to program a 15 yr old vehicle. Are you able to enable a skim added to a Jeep that did not come with it? I know the module and keys are available for purchase.

If he can't, we can do it for you. Takes some work on your part though and the rig has to be down for a few days. We have taken the PCM, SKIM module, keys, and ignition cylinder and plugged all of those into a rig here, do all the programming and solved the issue that way. Kind of a pain in the ass but a way to get it done. The only caveat is the keys are hit and miss right now so best to wait until they aren't.

little life hack:

you can take the pill out of your key, glue it to the inside of your steering column shroud, and then you just need a properly cut key to start your car. doesn't cost anything and no down time. used this is VW's in the past because replacement keys and programming can be $300+

Littler life hack- how to make it very easy for someone to steal your rig.

Remove the skim and buy The Club.

The CLUB is not much of a deterrent with a battery operated Dremel and an abrasive cutting wheel. There was a lady that lost her car keys along with the CLUB key, but had her spare hide a key with her. Removing the CLUB took about 45 seconds to cut thru the chrome moly shaft.

For a car thief that doesn't give a shit, takes about 20 seconds to cut through the steering wheel with a hand powered hacksaw.

As a last resort, you could secure the SKIM key in the covers near the ignition and then just use a regular key.

I live dangerously and only have one key.... but I’m also going to be installing an LS this winter and it won’t be a worry for me anymore.
I have an LS and the security light comes on and off when driving. It is very annoying.
I recommend you use Novak Conversions for your conversion parts. They are an outstanding company.

I won’t have the oem cluster anymore. Plan to use the Holley system with their 7" screen to replace it. I will check out the Novak stuff. Grabbing the LS this weekend. 8K mile motor and transmission for $150 from a buddy who wants his space back.

Everyone's information is very helpful. Thank you. I haven't done anything yet. It is just becoming so interacting to me that while driving it will sometimes come on and the instruments all stop working but the engine keeps running great. Than it clears and starts working again. Is there anyone in the Phoenix area that you can suggest that can tell the PCM to stop the Security System? If someone were to steal the Jeep I don't care. I have insurance.
