Some of you may know my daughter lives 12 hrs away to the west of me. And this weekend is when all the planets and time frames had aligned for Jeep Repair Weekend. It was not to be. The transfer case in my 01 3/4 ton suburban decided at 430 am (approx 2.5 km from my place) to destroy itself. :( Limped it home and spent the rest of the day figuring out what to do with it. And of course the rear hitch is rusted in place and the garage is just that much to short to close the overhead door. And at -24c its not much fun. 15 min outside, 1/2 hr to warm up.
Research on the web provided info that the NP 246 has a habit of wearing a pin hole or two (due to ratcheting of the oil pump in the case)and the lube disappears. No oil was found when I pulled the drain plug. So found one at the local pick and pull for 400 bucks but its too friggen cold. Going down to -31c tonight. And thats my story for today.:)

I will never again complain that it's too cold where I live.........

ha ha. You get used to it. Kinda. I work outside all year so it has to be done. But when I have a choice well I take it. :) At least it happened close to home not km's (miles) away from civilization. Big guy must have been watching out for me this am :)

Holy cow that’s cold! If it was that cold I don’t think I could even be in the garage! I’m cold just thinking about it!

The NP246 sucks sweaty balls. There's a kit to fix the oil pump issue, and a couple of others with that transfer case. Wife grenaded ours.

Ya read about the issue years ago but as time wore on I failed to heed the warnings. :( Thats twice GM has failed me with their "cost saving measures". Had a 92 2wd with the 4l60e that died twice, supposedly a small plastic part that was not built sufficiently failed. Saving GM cents on every transmission made but costing us consumers many dollars over time. Oh well life goes on.

I hate the State government here but it was 74 here today in Sunny NorCal. (43 was the low burr). Totally thought about taking my hard top off on my drive home lol

Same here. Have a brand new soft top sitting in a box waiting for install. Gonna be a tough choice this weekend.

You would really hate it here then, still running around without doors and had to turn my ac on in my office to cool down my pc's, got up to 80 yesterday in there o_O
