Hey everyone,

My TJ didn’t come with any top at all. No soft top, no hardware, nothing. I'm trying to figure out exactly what parts I need to buy in order to install a soft top from scratch.

Also, if it matters, it's a stock 98 sahara with full steel doors.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any advice.

It depends what kind you get, the hardware is different depending on whether you go traditional, frameless, etc. Header, door surrounds, inner and outer bow, tailgate bar, and those 2 little bars that go on the tailgate to hold the corners down.
Honestly I'd recommend against buying piecemeal, only because I think sometimes people don't know what they're selling and they'll tell you it's for the right year or that it has all the hardware... and it doesn't. Then you end up spending more money chasing down parts. But I see new soft tops in unopened boxes on Marketplace frequently; maybe you can find something there. Good luck!

I'm down in Tucson, and I'm running a Rampage Frameless top. There's not much room in the back, but I don't have a backseat, so that's not a problem for me. The only hardware needed is a Windshield Header and a Tailgate Bar. And since I remove it in usually late March, and put it back on in November, it's lasted me longer than you might expect. When this one dies, I'll get another one, if not Rampage, another frameless.
