Soft top tension strap broke

I bought 3" strap and I bought a rivet tool. My question really is do these straps basically hang off the rivets or do they take one wrap around the bar first so they aren't so heavily tugging on the rivets?
When we first got our Jeep, we had taken the top off very early on in the hopes of replacing it. Long story short all the hardware was off and we had a devil of a time figuring out what went where. I recall those straps being a twisted mess. We may have unwrapped them from the bar if they were wrapped originally. Now the pressure is pulling directly on the rivets. Does someone know? Or mind taking a look at one that hasn't been messed up?

Mine are riveted on the opposite sides of the bar from one another, and wrap over top...so a half wrap around the bar, and tension is on the rivet.

X2, this is how mine were as well (when I still had a soft top).

It just seems so weak, seems like one full wrap would take a lot of the pressure off. Thank you for the response.
The strap listed below was the right width (just under an 1/8th" wider) and thickness of the original. I haven't installed it yet, but, I'm quite happy with what I see so far.
The company I had seen in other posts, but had a tough time rummaging through their product until I came across another post from some time ago with a link.
It's strapworks.com and the product code is: HWP3, Description is: Heavyweight Polypropylene 3 inch. I picked black of course. It was $13.05 to the door for 20 feet. 5 days to the door with their basic shipping.

For the do-it-yourself person, that's definitely the way to go. Morris 4x4 sells the Mopar replacement straps, pre-cut and holes for screws already made, but $50/side.

My top makes a lot more flapping noise with that strap broken. I'm hopeful the noise will be reduced when replaced. It really didn't take long at all to cut it out and put holes in it with the original as a template. As another person had said, a soldering iron makes quick work for the holes. Too hot to work out there still. 114 today, I'll get it installed soon though. Ugh.

I would imagine they are to keep the center and rear bows at a certain maximum distance from each other, to keep tension on the top. Without them, the top fabric would be the limiting tension factor, and we all know how that can change with temperature swings...IMO
