I have a 04 wrangler unlimited my speedometer didn't work when I bought it i locked it in 4wd yesterday and the speedometer went crazy bouncing back and forth on the gauge any solutions

The speedometer gear housing, which has an eccentric shape, was probably not rotated far enough to the right position so the speedometer gear can reliably engage the pinion gear underneath it.

Check this page out... http://www.4x4xplor.com/speedo.html

My Speedo is not working now, I replaced the speed sensor but not luck. A few days prior to noticing I replace the pinion seal in the rear axle, when disconnecting the drive line is it possible the speedometer gear is miss aligned now? Can't get it smogged since the check engine light is on and the code is no speedometer sensor detected.

Thanks,
J

It's definitely possible that your gauge cluster is bad, so I wouldn't rule that out.

Your rear axle and driveshaft shouldn't have anything to do with your speedometer not working I don't think. Did you follow Jerry's advice by chance?

Do check that the speedometer gear housing is rotated properly and especially rotated far enough so the speedometer gear is fully engaged with its pinion gear down inside the transfer case. As described above in what you quoted. If it's not the speedometer will not work. Not even a little bit. :)
